I have recently switched my senior dog over to acana and he is doing great on it. It looks as if his allergies are going away, and he is more active. Plus he loves the food!. I feed him canned and dry at night but just dry in the morning which he used to leave alot of the time. Not any more.
Anyways, since it is doing great for my dog, I was wondering if feeding grain free to the cats like orijen or acana would be good. Right now they get grain free and grain in dry. Usually it is stuff like Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Acana, Merricks BG ect. They get canned in the morning and night and eat that pretty well although they love their kibble too. I don't have a history of UTI issues with them. Neither has had a uti in their life. One is a female and has mild allergies, the other is a male and super healthy so far. They drink from their fountain and the dog bowl plenty. So I was wondering is it too risky to go grain free for them? The orijen and acana analysis says the ph of the food produces acidic urine to prevent crystals. If it isn't a good idea I'll keep with what I am doing as they are doing great so far. Kattie has been itchy lately though and I can't help but wonder if it is food related. I haven't given her an allergy injection since November, but I don't like steroids and try to avoid it as long as possible for her. She still has a great super soft coat, but when you scratch her back she goes bonkers licking the air. It is kinda funny, but still... She has no dandruff and is super shiny, but she does groom a lot and does get hairballs from that.

I'm feeding Acana to my cats and they are doing fine. None of them have ever had UTI (I have 2 neutered boys, one unneutered male and unspayed female). They also get wet food (which is also grain free). I've tried Applaws too and it was also good, but one of my kitties has a sensitive tummy and it was somehow not suitable for him so I switched back to Acana. I do still feed my female the Applaws kitten food though when she's on season.
(My dear Casper (now deceased) had UTI and crystals when I got him, he was then 1,5 years old and unneutered. His previous owner had fed him Royal Canin dry foods and wet food which brand she never mentioned.)
