Does she scare you in these pictures?

I was out with friends for dinner last night and when one of the girls saw these 2 pictures of Rosie on my phone she said she terrified her, especially the 2nd picture

One of them has been to my house many times for coffee and she loves the babies, but my other friend who's scared of cats won't come. She's always said she'll only come as long as l shut them in the conservatory but i've always told her she'll have a long wait because it's not going to happen!.

I really value my friends, and the fact that she can't come to my home won't come between us, but fancy saying Rosie scares her

I think she looks "scarier", i.e., more intense, in the first picture. Some people are just scared of cats, period, and an "in-your-face" cat, as opposed to a shy, retiring one, just panics them.
There was a brothel located next to our old school building, and several very friendly cats lived there (Is that why people say "cathouse"?). Some of them took open windows as an invitation to come in for scritches, and it never ceased to amaze me that there were some students who really got incredibly upset by their presence.

Oh y, she looks SO vicious! LOL

I, too, have an acquaintance that is afraid of ANY living creature other than humans (and probably most of them as well.) I will lock my dogs upstairs, as they can be TOTAL pests, but I refuse to do so with my cats. She came to our Super Bowl party this year and it was so funny, because it was as if Brillo KNEW, and repeatedly would run right at her and then turn away as she approached where she was sitting, of course elliciting squeals of horror. Everyone was amazed, and said Brillo was "desensitizing her." We joked that next time, the dogs would come down to see her. LOL

Good luck dealing with that terrifyingly scary Rosie!

The things that scare people often have no basis in fact. That's why they're called "phobias," which are, by definition, irrational fears of ordinary things.

I have seen people come into the shelter and be panicky when they saw the cats' cages fronting on the lobby. I saw one woman who had to cover her eyes and flee back to the dog area. Maybe this is from some bad experience when they were younger. My brother, for example, hates dogs and doesn't know why. But I know why. He was bitten by 3 different dogs, each a year apart, starting when he was just 2 years old. I remember the last two, but he doesn't remember any of them.

I also suspect that cats are often more of a "rural" experience. Yes, I know they are extremely popular in urban settings, and I think they're great indoor-only pets. But when most of us lived in the country, we had exposure to cats wandering around.

I'm sure someone has written a doctoral thesis on this subject!

Rosie Scarey?
If she were in the same room as me, I'd be running: Right in her direction to scoop her up!

I also have a friend that is terrified of cats and won't come to my house. The one time she did she was leaping and jumping all over the place, including on my couch!
when she saw Chynna
(the most gentle lovable cat I've ever had), across the room.

Rosie is so preciously adorable! I don't see how anyone could be frightened of that sweet little face.

Rosie scary? not in the least.
In the first picture I think she is waiting for a kiss. In the second picture she wants you to come sit with her.

Terrified.

I
Rosie.

My mom used to be scared of cats. She thought they were sneaky and she didn't trust them. On top of that, she was allergic to them. I feel confident in saying I've mostly converted her, lol.
She adores Molly and Polly of course, and she's open to meeting new cats now. Still, some cats, while she does think they are beautiful, still kind of scare her a little when they have intense eyes, as most cats do.

I don't share her feelings (obviously
), but she's explained it to me in a way I can understand a bit better than I did.

I respect that people have fears that I don't get. That said, like you I would not put my cats away because someone preferred they not be here. My cats live here, guests don't, no matter how much I love them.

Rosie is just beautiful! The black mark on her nose is darling

P.S. Do you brush her often? Her coat is so shiny and healthy looking.

Rosie is so cute.
I have a cousin with 4 kids that come to visit fairly often. Their next to youngest, Peter, is about 3 years old, and on one of their last visits he got a rare glimpse of Holland... came upstairs in TEARS about how there was a black cat in the basement...
It made me laugh because he was scared not because of a cat (they have a cat) but because he saw a black cat.
I felt bad for laughing, but his dad (my cousin) said not to worry - "It builds character".

Rosie? Afraid of Rosie? Sheesh! I think that girl is just adorable!

Our neighbor is deathly afraid of cats (but not our cats, not anymore). When she was a little girl, a kitten climbed up her dress and it freaked her out. And now she's scared. It really is more of a phobia than anything. When she and her young children first came over to our house and Hydrox was there, whenever he would even make a move, she'd start screaming. Screaming! Which got her kids unnerved and very scared then, too. (Nothing like passing your phobia onto your children.)

However, I will say that when I needed help one night with Hydrox's e-collar (he had had surgery to remove lumps in his stomach and had three large drainage tubes sticking out of his stomach), I had to call her and she came right over. I held Hydrox while she got the collar back on and she didn't scream when he struggled.

She's still not crazy about our gang, but she deals. And she can't believe we have six cats in the house. And several years ago, somebody gave her drinking glasses and matching napkins with cats on them as a gift and she couldn't use them; she couldn't put her lips on the glasses or the napkins because of cat hair! She gave them to me. Her loss; they're really cute glasses.
