Bird indentification please

i'm sorry that the photos are not very close up. It really would not allow me to get close. I looked in my bird book and have no idea what this is. It's some sort of quail-like bird because it struts around like a dove or pigeon and it didn't fly. When I came near it just ran under our deck. When it did get alarmed the feathers on the back of the neck stuck out. Is it a grouse?

To show size - like a small hen

face - very small beak

Looks like a hun............hungarian partridge but the pics aren't clear enough to make a good stab at identification. It could be either a hun or a small grouse - they are all related.

It could be a juvenile Chris that has just fledged. Various species fledge early, before they can fly properly and then spend a few days scuttling around on the ground.

The parent birds often visit to feed the fledgling - eventually they learn to fly as long as they evade the predators for long enough.

From what I can see, I'd say a Grouse.
