I purchased the diffuser from Amazon about 3 weeks or so ago and noticed within the first few hours a great change in my shy cat's behavior. Love, love the product!

But it is normal for the diffuser to leak "oil" from the bottom and sides of the unit? When you touch the unit you get a greasy feeling and you can see it on the sides/vents of the unit.

Plus today I noticed a burning smell and unplugged it right away. I do have a refill on hand. But did not want to use it in case the unit is defective.

I emailed Feliway 1 week ago and did not receive a reply on this issue. So I thought what better place than to ask TCS!

Thanks for your help.

That is NOT normal and you did the right thing by unplugging it. You need to go through Amazon to resolve the issue with the seller rather than contacting the seller directly. It is up to the seller to replace the defective unit rather than the manufacturer due to Amazon.com's rules.

That's NOT normal, but not unheard of. I've had a few refill bottles leak like that. Since I keep them on hand, I just popped in a new one and all was well. I get mine from entirelypets.com when they run a special with free shipping and either a % off purchase or $ off purchase through their emails.

Thanks for the information. I will be contacting the Feliway company on Monday. I am thinking Amazon might not help since it was ships & sold by Amazon. I am guessing they might want me to start with the maker of the product?

Either way, I will try Feliway directly first & if they don't help, I will go to Amazon. I just would hate to spend more money on a new product (diffuser) and it does the same exact thing.

Like, I said before, I still love the product.

Amazon's rules are, if you bought it through their website, you HAVE to go through them FIRST. I had a big problem with a shipment I ordered and going through Amazon got it resolved fairly quickly and very satisfactorily.

I am not saying to go buy another, because if you bought it directly through Amazon, it IS up to Amazon to replace it for you AT NO COST and they they will deal with the manufacturer themselves.

Hi
. I too had one diffuser leak and I actually saw it steaming??? Unplugged it immediately and returned it to Petsmart. They happily replaced it for me. I checked my other ones and they do have a small amount of an oily residue on them. I would be interested in what Feliway's response is to you, if they do reply.

Hi there:

I have been using two feliway diffusers, one upstairs and downstairs for the past 2 months. I agree it's a great product.  However both are greasy all the time and both leave a greasy residue (almost a puddle) on the floor beneath them.  They cannot be tighten any further than snug.  Mine came from the Vet's office.  I phoned Feliway and was told this is NOT normal and the diffusers must be defective and to return them to the Vet's office for replacement.  There are two phone numbers on the Felliway refill box (Canada/USA) to call if there's a problem.  They were extremely receptive and helpful.  Hope the new diffusers are better!

The new Feliway Multicat Diffusers have a problem with leaking. The old style didn't. They have taken them off the market and are redesigning them. I am disappointed as all that are available currently are the facial pheromone refills. The multicat is different--mammary gland pheromones, and I think it was working better for my cats that the facial pheromone kind.

I obtained a multi-cat Feliway product from my vet just as they came onto the market. Didn't help the situation, IMO.
