I have a 2 year old cat that has been part of the family since 2/12/11. I have never had a cat before so I am trying to not over analyze his behavior. Abraham seems very healthy and VERY energetic. He is completely an indoor cat. He eats a combination of Blue Buffalo wet and dry food. He eats the recommended portion split up between a morning and a night feeding. He usually runs right to his dish and devours its contents. He drinks all of the time both from his and the dog's dish. Last night he seemed a bit different from usual - he kind of just laid around all night. This morning I put his food down which he was begging for and he went right to it and did not eat. I left him alone for a while and figured he would it it if left alone. I came back a while later and it was still there so I gave him a different can of the wet food that he loves the flavor of and he ate that but kind of slowly. When he was done with that I tried to give him dry food but he walked away. I also noticed that when I first put his food down this AM that he started kneading the floor by his dish. My partner said it looked like he was ready to use the bathroom! I called his name and redirected him at which point he did go to the litterbox and he urinated. All bathroom habits seem in order. I checked his teeth to see if they were ok and that checked out. He does not have an abscess in or around his mouth. He was treated two weeks ago for a torn nail which is completely healed. Am I paranoid? I tend to think the worst. Any guidance would be so very appreciated!!! PS I am not sure if he ate some left over dog food that my dog may have left.

I am sorry your kitty is under the weather. Cats will paw at the ground around their food. Mine do it all the time. It is instinct I believe....like their wild cousins trying to bury it.

But I would say a vet visit is probably in order. Cats hide their symptoms so well. If you are concerned enough to seek answers, my rule of thumb is to go to the vet. Maybe he did eat some of the dogs food and it didn't set right with him. Probably a good idea to keep him from eating it. Cats have such a crazy sensitive digestive system. A dog could probably eat cat food and never be any worse for it...but vice versa and you get a sick kitty.

Whatever it is, you probably have caught it early. Please keep us posted how he is doing.

back to me. I usually take up any unused dog food immediately, but I must have forgotten. I can't get into a vet until Monday I was kind of wondering if cats get stomach aches?

I don't see why they couldn't get a belly ache. My cat, E, (I know it's a weird name
) just about 3 weeks ago, turned up his nose at his food. I went running for the computer to go on this site for suggestions.

Well, next meal, he was fine and has been. I can't explain it. If he isn't back to his normal self by Monday, I'd take him in. Watch his litter box. Make sure he is eliminating easily. UTI's are real popular with young males. Watch his body language...is he washing. Does he seem happy? Is he interested in the birds outside the window. Things like that can tell you a lot. Playful?

But I would run this by the vet on Monday and see what they say. You are great to notice these things. You are a good kitty parent!

All of this is great advice and I don't have a thing to offer - except I empathize with how you feel, Petguy! I have six cats and if any one of them begins to act the slightest bit odd, I'm all over it.

Hope it all turns out perfectly fine!!

I would agree that a vet visit is in order if your cat still isn't acting "normal" by Monday. Usually something's up when they're not themselves - especially if they're not eating or using the litter box normally.

I hope it's nothing serious.

Abraham ate all of his food tonight and is running around the house!!! I think he probably was full because he ate some of the dog food last night!

Good news!
Just keep a close eye on him for the next few days to play it safe.
