Our 2 1/2 year old cat has suffered with sores on his chin since we got him from the shelter a year ago. Our vet thought they might be scratches "from his former days when he was a tom cat" (before he came home to us, neutered and loved and we turned this homeless street fighter into an indoor cat!), but the sores have persisted. (And we know he's not fighting with any cats outdoors!) Sometimes they are worse, and sometimes they disappear.
We're probably going to take him to the vet this coming week, but my husband did some online research where someone actually posted pictures which are identical to our cat's sores. It was called 'cat acne' and there are many links to it. So - this evening we cleaned his chin with warm water and are going to even be more industrious about cleaning his food bowls. One website said not to use plastic bowls for pets. We don't, but we keep a plastic mat under his bowls. I've just put that into the dishwasher.
Anyone have any more info on this?
