I need suggestions how to transition a fish lover to a meat/poultry lover.
Ritz strongly prefers tuna and salamon to any other source of protein, has since I adopted her over a year ago. (She dumpster dived for the first five months of her life before she was rescued. Long, wonderful, story, for another time/forum.)
A lot of cat food companies get their fish from Asia (like, Japan). Add to that the mercury content and that fish can cause crystals to form in the urine, and I'd really like Ritz to eat other sources of protein. She loves chicken/turkey BABY food but for obvious reasons, I can only rarely give that to her [when she throws up].
Also, Ritz won't touch pate style food, only gravy, sauce. She eats almost exclusively wet food, except when she's turned up her nose at four different kinds of food and I feed her a little dry food in desperation.
She needs to watch her weight, too (medium tall cat, around ten pounds; about 20 to 24 months old).
Any ideas? Thanks.

I had the same problem! Thinking that cat food in general is not too great, i fed my young cat steamed white fish for one of his three meals a day. I had checked with his vet and she said it was fine as long as it was white fish. Since finding this site however, other members have helped me to realise that this is not a good idea. Problem - Gilbert LOVES that fish

Trying to find an alternative has led me to start the move onto raw feeding. Interestingly he turns his nose up at any wet food with vegtables in it - think he was trying to tell me something! He will eat raw chicken if i cover it with fortiflora but goes wild for raw rabbit - typical as its more expensive... I'm not trying to convert you or anything, just saying what is working for us at the moment.
I have noticed that a couple of members on the raw forum have mentioned feeding sardines once a week. Any thoughts from anyone that does this? Please help our fish lovers
