To rename, or not to rename...

THAT is the question!

Ok I need to take a vote on whether or not to rename Miss Hissy (my new calico persian). Please help me out! And if you have a suggestion as to a good name for a calico persian, please let me know! Thanks! And if I rename her, she can still have the nick name Miss Hissy!

She looks like a Splash to me!

I would say it depends on how old she is, that is, how long has she had that name?

Coal was already named that when we adopted him, he was 10. We kept the name. Ditto for Tillie, adopted at age 9.

Our other cats we've renamed.

Lilith was "Toy". Lousy name for a cat. She's a cat, not a toy.

Khepera was originally "Stinky", the Humane Society changed it to "Tinker". We gave him something more diginified, named him after an Egyptian God.

Sasha was "Pooh Bear". Just not the right name for him.

Romeo was "Sparky", which reminded me too much of the dog from South Park.

The other kitties came to us without names.

Miss Hissy is about 5 years old. Her original name was Zummy (dont' ask because I have no clue). She doesn't respond to that one anyway.

The reason why it was irresistable to call her Miss Hissy or Missy Hissy is because when ever you get within a few feet of her she has this cute little hissy fit! And she opens her mouth so wide when she's hissing. So it just fit at the time until I could figure out what to do. She will now let me get close to her without hissying but if I stay too long I hear it!

I would say go for the rename.

After all, how many of our cats have more than one name anyway, when you coulnt nicknames?

Hmm Since you already have Peaches, maybe keep up the yummy foods theme?

Caramel, perhaps?

That's a good one! How about something like Carmella, or would it be caramella? Then again... there's Henrietta. She responds somewhat to that name so I think I'll keep it. Sometimes I call her Peaches because she looks so much like her. I've been thinking about calling Henrietta Half-n-Half as a nick name! (Peaches & Cream VS Half n Half)!

My friend has a calico shorthair resuce cat and they called her Banoffee. She looks kind of toffee coloured . . .

My Mum adopted a longhaired calico last year, she was called Tiny - which I thought was inapproriate as she was just average sized. So we decided to rename her Tanya. This way, it was a nicer name, but still sounded a little like Tiny so there was continuity and she know she was being spoken to.

I would suggest it's OK to change the name, but maybe something that sounds a little like the current name would be less confusing for the cat?

I know this one is kinda typical but when I look at her it's what I see.......

Tiger or ever Tigger from Winne the Pooh.

I just now saw this thread, and I'd just read your post in the feral forum and encouraged you to rename her! I'm so glad you're going to - or thinking about it! I'm a big believer that our names affect us, and I don't think you or Miss Hiss want to be stuck with that, LOL!

She'll learn to respond to any name you choose if you use it with her consistently. Because your other kitty is Peaches 'N Cream, I think Henrietta Half-n-Half would be really cute. But Carmella is sweet too.... (and I'd bet you'll end up calling her Henri with the other name!)

Though I have to say I really like the name Toffee - or even Coffee!! Coffe really goes well with Peaches N Cream....

How about Portia? We used to have a very regal long-haired bicolor cat with that name.

Or Persephone? (Pomegranets & Peaches...a stretch, but might work?)
