Has Anyone Tried the Latest Version Of Firefox?

I'm thinking about downloading it (and most likely will eventually), but before I do I'd like to get some opinions because I heard that it's not too stable and is causing problems with some websites/add ons/applications (such as Flash Player and the like). Any input or advice?

nope but when i open firefox its telling me to download the new one so i might hmmm

ill let you know

thats what it looks like

the tabs you open are right at the top you dont have a loading bar that pops up as a little white/grey highlighted area in the bottom left hand corner its a bit strange but actually runs fast than the version i had installed

its let me install my tool bars so im going to see if flash player is ok....ill be back HAHA

You don't have firefox set to automatically update? I didn't even know you could turn off their auto updates. I don't think I've ever had a problem with updates, though I don't like running tons of add ons since they slow down the browser a lot.
mine came up asking me to update now or update later always does sometimes actually it will do it automatically but i had to physically download this off their website

It's set to update if you want it to (you'll get a pop-up thingy to let you know that there's an update), but you have to manually download the latest version if you want it, just like AJ said.

AJ, it doesn't look as if all the bookmark/tools, etc. thingies are on the latest version by the screenshot you posted. Are they, or am I just not seeing them?

Thanks for posting the screenshot!

I guess I'll have to download it when I'm in the mood to play around with it and familiarize myself with all the new stuff...

AJ!

I'll have to do it when I'm not involved with TCS - which means it'll probably never happen.

I downloaded it two days ago, and so far, so good. The add-ons I use are slowly being updated to be compatible with the new version, but Red Cats still isn't, in either "flavor".

Well, if that's the case, I think I'll wait till everything's compatible. Wouldn't want to be without my cat theme!

I just took a "tour" of the new FF, and I'm not sure if I like it all that much. It looks quit a bit different than from what I'm used to, and I don't like the new formatting. I guess I'm a creature of habit.
it actually grows on you i think i like it but im not 100% yet

I was forced into it yesterday. Stupid me didn't think and when it asked me to update I said yes. After the update it triggered something on my anti virus program. After that it would not start without crashing.

It would load then crash in about 3 seconds. Then a crash report window popped up. After going thru that it would try again and then crash.

After the third time I remembered the reason why I hadn't updated it was because of this same problem. That time I was able to uninstall then go to the web site and download the old version.

This time the only thing offered for download was version 4.0. I searched the site but all links led to the new 4.0. I tried a quick search for other sites that might have the old version but didn't find any and by that time I was so annoyed I just went for the new one.

I don't like the way it looks. On my computer it is nothing like the screenshot posted earlier in this thread. I don't like that the way the menu bar looks without the icons on it. And none of my add ins work.

However, I was able to get it to put the tabs on the bottom of the bar like they were before. I need to read the help topic and see what else I can do to make it more likeable.

Yes, I'm using it, on an XP machine it gives a very Vista-ish feel. It's very modern compared to the older versions, it did take awhile to get used to though.

I had the exact same problem as CheshireCat. Firefox 3.whatever updated, and then would just keep crashing instantly over and over. THANKFULLY it stayed stable long enough for me to export my bookmarks, I was freaking (I do it weekly because it's a really important asset to me in my work, but I'd just added a bunch on Tues/Wed).

I HAD to download 4.0. I really don't like the look and feel of it, and I LOVE having the status bar at the bottom because I don't always have the fastest (or most stable) internet connection, and I really like to know if a page is still loading or it's gotten hung up. Took a while to figure out there's an add-on called Status-4-Eva or something like that. It's got my Foxclocks and status bar opposite of the way the were (status on left, floxclocks on right), and I'm not happy I can't change it.

It's not that I don't like change... but I was REALLY happy with the way I had everything set up.

Last night I had no problems with 4.0 being stable. But today I keep getting "Not Responding" and it's driving me so nuts, so after reading reviews that compare security of all the browsers, I downloaded Opera 10.0. Now I know what Firefox 4.0 is. It's Opera 10.0.

I'm using Opera right now because it's faster, and I'm already used to navigating the new menu and tabs (even though I'm not happy about it LOL) - but at least it's stable.

I imported my bookmarks (6,015 of them!!!!), so I'm good to go.

Opera does seem noticeably faster - at least with my connection.

Wow! After reading all of what y'all wrote, I'm REALLY hesitant now about installing it!

I just updated FF 3 point 6 whatever it is, and thankfully, I haven't had any crashing problems. I sometimes wonder if stuff like that isn't done on purpose, so you'll be forced into installing the latest version. Makes you wonder sometimes....

Can you use Opera for Windows XP?

For those of you who use the cat theme version of FF, I noticed last night when I had an update for it that it's now compatible with the new version of FF. Just an FYI.

I think I'll wait to install it till they get everything up-to-date and get all the "bugs" worked out.

Although I have Firefox on my computer, I use Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I have read over and over it is the most powerful engine available to the general public. Since I have the latest updates, I indeed have things like the new Flash Player, I even have it on my "phone". I decided to buy from amazon the Snow leopard bible, 804 pages of instruction on how to use it. You would be blown away if you read this book cover to cover as I have. There are things that it can do that you would never dream possible.

BTW, this posting was produced by talking to my computer using Snow Leopard.

I probably would be blown away cuz I wouldn't understand a word of what was written!

You can "tell" your computer what to do? Wow!

It just totally amazes me how far technology has advanced. Eventually, we'll have machines running everything - just like in the terminator movies...

for the input, Persi!

I was just coming here to post that the "Green Flavor" cat theme is now available again. There are even more cat icons than before.

Now that most of my favorite add-ons are available for this version I'm pretty happy with it. that it remains stable.

I really wonder why the new version of FireFox is stable for some people and not others?

KittKatt, if you want to see what the new version would look and feel like (without themes), download Opera. It works with XP.

More cat icons? Hmmmm..

It looks as if they're slowly getting things up to par. I guess I won't know how much I'll like it till I give it a shot.

I wondering if you can switch back to the "old" version of FF if you decide you don't like it..

Do you have to reset all your security settings & whatnot after you install the new version?

Maybe the Windows version plays a role - I have Vista. I didn't have to reset anything except some of the toolbar icons. Stuff like Adblock Plus and HTTPS-Everywhere remained the same. I downloaded Firefox 4.0 Tuesday, and now all but two of my favorite add-ons have been updated.

This could be a reason for some of the problems. I have Windows 7 and today I am not liking Firefox 4 at all.

Last night it was fine for most of the evening. Then I left it for a few hours. When I tried to launch it again it was very slow then gave me a "not responding" message. Of course me being the most patient person I shut it down. After that every time I tried to launch it I got an error because it was trying to restore my tabs and couldn't do that.

After three more tries I had enough frustration and switched to IE for the rest of the night. (I don't like it but will use it if necessary.)

This afternoon I was having the same problem with Firefox so I uninstalled it and downloaded a fresh copy and all is fine for the moment. But if this keeps up I will have to switch to something else.

hmmm mine has gone haywire, last night and this morning its going VERY SLOW and is crashing Flash player

Are you guys talking about Firefox 4, or the newest version of 3?

As to the Mac OS, it may be powerful. It may be great. But I know my ipod won't run any Flash videos, because there's some sort of falling out between Adobe and Apple. Owning an ipod Touch has disillusioned me a lot about the much-vaunted Apple hardware and software.
