Another case of a person being despicable

This makes me sick. I just heard it on the news and I want to take this guy and shake him. I hope he gets the book thrown at him, and I hope these two poor cats are found.

He trapped his neighbor's two domesticated cats, because he was annoyed they were sitting on his porch furniture and getting cat fur on it, and he was "afraid they would reproduce". (Idiot!)
He separately trapped them, a week apart, and after he trapped each one, he released them into a woody park, a few miles away, for God's sake.

Gawd....I absolutely hate hearing things like this. I'm so worried about those poor kitties.

I'm not sure I believe he's any more despicable than the cats' owners... Why were those cats out on their own laying on his patio furniture? I'm not condoning what he did in ANY way, but this is why people need to keep their cats indoors, or supervised on harnesses outdoors.

I hope the cats are found too, but don't you think it odd that he trapped the first cat and then weeks later trapped the second one? It sounds like the cats' owner's don't give a care about what happens to their pets. IMO, they deserve WORSE punishment than the man who trapped and released them... He didn't ask for the cats, he didn't have responsibility for the cats, and at least he didn't kill them!

While it would have been nice if he would have taken them home or at least to a shelter, it doesn't sound like he abused them in any way. And if they're free to roam around on their own, who's to know that they wouldn't have been subjected to worse: being hit by a car, eaten by a predator, poisoned...?

I don't agree with what this man did, but I really don't agree with the cats "owners" for allowing them to hang out where they aren't wanted. Whats worse, if those were my cats, after the 1st one went missing, I wouldn't have been so careless to let my remaining cat go back to a house where he is so unsafe.

Everyone involved in this was in the wrong as far as I'm concerned.
What a shame for those poor cats. I hope they find a home where they will really be loved and cared for.

Well, all of that did occur to me, also, if he did it weeks apart, weren't the owners concerned about the first one who disappeared?

I agree with you, they should have been kept inside, but it horrifies me that they're now out in some area they're not familiar with, where there are predators, and they don't know how to get home.

I agree, and I hope they are found, the poor little things. No doubt they are scared. But in all honesty, I hope they are found and re-homed. I also found it very odd that the article you linked didn't have any input from the supposed "owners" of these two little creatures. I just wish they had chosen different patio furniture to lounge on - that of a cat-lover!

Another reason why mine are indoor only!

I hope the cats find their way back.

Someone should dump that idiot in the woods and leave him there. Hundred bucks says he'd have less chance of surviving than the cats.

I once lived next to a neighbor who once cats stepped on his property he shot them.
I don't let my cat roam because of this and other reasons for her own safety.
I do not appreciate others letting their cats defecate and urinate all over my vegetables, flowers, yard, porch, and destroy my property. They also tease my animals and kill birds I like to watch. And I have my whole place fenced. I would never harm the cats so they just are free to destroy my property as they please I suppose.

What a Horrid inhuman thing to do to these two poor cats. No matter who is in the wrong him or the owners. Its the cats who have suffered..They don't know any better..They did what cats do..... anything they feel like..Its not there fault they where allowed out to roam.. They didn't realize they should not of been sitting on His porch furniture,,Now they are homeless, scared and hungry and maybe dead from predators. Poor cats

The article never says anything about the cats' owners or interviewed them, right? For all we know, this could have been the first time they were on the neighbor's porch. Going based off his reproduction excuse, he sounds like a grade A hillbilly who is more likely to trap and move a cat than talk to the owners. Many times a neighbor will not complain but will instead hold a grudge because they choose to be passive agressive instead of confrontational. The article never mentions steps being taken by the neighbor before abducting the cats.

As for letting the other cat outside still, why wouldn't the owner? If the neighbor never did tell the owner about stealing the cat, the owner probably assumed the first cat ran away, in which case there is no explicit reason to keep the other cat inside.

Really the article has such little information in it that I think passing any judgement on the owners is wrong. Obviously the neighbor is in the wrong since that is stealing or petnapping depending on local laws, but all we know is that the cats were on his porch and now they're in the woods. Also, how do we know the cats are in the park? Did the owners get them back? Because that would be something to mention in the article. If the owners do not have the cats back, then we are left up to the word of an admitted pet thief and he could have boiled them in tar for all we know.

Very sad for this two cats. I wonder if they were really neighbors cats or just strays? And what kind of owner wouldn't even look for their first cat after it disappeared?! At least contact neighbors to see if anyone has seen their lost cat. This poor cats were not cared for or loved. How sad. Indoor only for my cats!

I was thinking the same thing.
