....that you thought you'd never buy that now you figure it's pretty hard to live without?

It took me years to get a microwave. I was all, "No....no.....I don't need a microwave! I prefer making things in the oven, really cooking them.....blah, blah, blah."

Well, I finally got one about 3 1/2 years ago.
I put everything in there.
I reheat coffee, I reheat leftovers, I finish up my baked potatoes if it's not going fast enough, I thaw chicken if it's not thawing fast enough for me. I probably could live without it, but I wouldn't be happy!

Anyone else? Something you hesitated getting and now you love? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I'm embarrassed to admit that my parents had cell phones before I did. Now I live happily without a land line.

I'm also a sucker for kitchen gadgets, to the point that I can't find anything because my drawers and cupboards are always FULL!
Having said that, though, I absolutely LOVE my apple slicer/corer and use it all the time. Well, technically I'm using my mom's at the moment, but still... I wish I had invented THAT handy little gadget.

It's funny your "can't live without" is a microwave. I hardly ever use mine. As far as kitchen stuff goes, I think the microwave is the thing I could get rid of and never even miss it...

We still do that when we go camping! God, it's awful. But when you're living in a tent, any coffee is good coffee, I guess.

My pocketknife. I know it sounds silly, but I didn't want one for whatever reason. Gary pushed one on me for YEARS. It's teeney, and I don't know why it was such a big deal for me. But I use it ALL the time, and whenever I don't have it, it seems I need it!

Oh! I had one of those for awhile - the little teeney one - and I kept it in my pocket all the time and used it alot.
I lost it. I miss it.

My license...

I had my beginners when I was 16, even had to renew them after 5 yrs when they expired, I never thought I would actually get my license...I didn't think I'd ever really need them or use them.

Finally at the age of 25 my Dad MADE me...I wanted to go home and visit for 2 weeks with the boys one Summer and he told me if I came home I was doing my driving test, I was like Nooooooooo and he told me he wasn't driving me and the boys around for 2 weeks so I had no choice but to get them...

And I passed on the first try
Now I don't know what I would do without them, I was crazy thinking I wouldn't ever need them!!

A computer (don't know how I'd manage without one now) and a cell phone (I do have a tracfone; I think the last time I used it was over a month ago).

Two things: my computer and my Droid cell phone.

I never saw the need for a computer; it didn't seem that important to me. Wrong! I don't think I could live without my computer now. And we always felt that one computer was OK for both DH and me. Wrong again! When I bought my new one, DH took the old computer. And when that one dies, we'll probably get him a laptop because he "needs" his own computer.

The Droid? Couldn't see any reason to have a smart phone. All I ever wanted to do was use a phone for talking. Maybe a few pictures. That was it. Well, then I started listening to music on my phone when I was out walking. And I found myself taking more and more pictures. When our last contract ran out, the Verizon guy called to talk me into another contract. I kept saying no, that I was happy with the phone I had, no reason to get another one, etc.

And then the Droid X came out. And I "had to have one". DH couldn't see the use in it. But if I was getting one, then he wanted one, too. And now? I love texting with DH! He gets a morning break, a lunch break, and one in the afternoon. We don't text over lunch because I'm out walking now, but we're always texting during our breaks. He's fun to text with! And when he goes on his trips for the union, he'll text me in addition to calling me. I can't imagine not being able to text with my DH!

I text a lot with my son and DIL, too. They don't talk on their phones that much, but they text like crazy.

My own car. I got a car summer of 09 because I had to not because I wanted to. My older boy was due to start school and he and D had to be in different day cares. The new day care didn't open until 7 and my DH starts at 7. So he took the little guy to his home daycare for 6:30, and I took Kev in for 7 at his and then dash off to work. If I didn't have my car I so would be late for work - I start at 7:30. Now both boys go to the 7 am day care. I drop them off, DH picks them up.

I still use a stove top percolater for my coffee. I can't stand coffee maker coffee. It's just not hot enough.

I didn't learn to drive until I was 35, and now 15 years later I'm still amazed every time I get in my car.

My thing that I never really wanted but now can't live without is a dvd/video player. All I ever had was this ancient TV, it still had dials, and UHF for crying out loud, and rabbit ears. I hardly ever watch TV but I did get hooked on Friends.

I only get a few stations, and when they all stopped carrying Friends reruns I went out and bought myself a TV with dvd and video built right in. I then bought the Friends 10 season set. At first it was weird and I didn't think I would like watching DVD (or video) but I got used ot it quick, signed up for netflix, and even own several other TV show sets and a few movies.

I like to have it on in the back-round when I am home doing chores and getting supper. I can't stand TV advertising so this works great for me, don't know how I lived without it all those years!

Cool thread idea!

PS I don't use a microwave or a cell phone.

Have two things I never wanted but ended up with: microwave and cell phone. MIcrowave, first one came with my uncle's house when I got the contents, and when it went the way of all electronics, it took a whole week before I HAD to replace it. Cell phone was kind of forced on me by my cousin who worries about me doing chores and things, and now i cant live without it.

My PC! Of course, I was saying, "I'll never have one in my house" just before the Inernet explosion. My brother had given me an older PC (no Net), and I remember just looking at it, and thinking, "What a waste of my time." I gave it back to him. When we got the Net at work, that made my mind do a 360 turn! I could live without a cell phone, IPod (I don't have an IPod, nor do I want one), but don't take the Net away from me! It's far too useful--eBay, Amazon, couponing, tracking packages, research (history and reenacting), email, and of course, TCS!

After losing power for about a week after Hurricanes Ike & Rita, I decided I don't like being without it!
I'm definitely a "modern" girl, and like modern conveniences way too much!!

I wouldn't want to be without a washer & dryer again - especially since my back has gotten so bad. I would have a really difficult time having to haul the laundry to the laundromat.

I wouldn't want to be without my computer, either. Funny thing is, I managed just fine without it before I had one, and was satisfied with my WebTV. My son kept bugging me about "getting out of the dark ages" and wanted me to get a computer: I told him if he was so worried about it, that HE could buy one for me!
After I got the computer, I wondered how I had managed so long without one - even though there are times when it drives me nuts when it messes up!

I could live without a TV, a microwave, a dishwasher, and quite a few other things if I had to. And I have no use for cellphones.
I only have one for emergencies....
