when my friend and i came back sat night from feeding my strays we stood on the street talking for a while and we heard a cat meowing. i went home and my friend, she lives 2 houses up from me, e-mailed m e and said the meow is coming from a garage but the students that live there have been gone since thurs. on spring break. i went out an hour later, abt 9pm and saw a skinny black kitten run under a car. i called it and it came right up. since it was in front of my friends house i got her out, we fed it, it ate 3 cans of food. it is skin and bones and had a wound on his back by it's tail and some missing hair. we took it to another friends house and it spent the last 2 nights in her garage in a warm box w/heating blanket. we took it to the vet today. it's about 8-9 mo. we're having it neutered, de-wormed, de-mited and a shot of antibiotics.
the students garage door is padlocked on one side but kinda loose on the other end. my friend and i took flashlights yesterday and lifted the side where the cat got out up and peeked inside. the door to the house is closed, no lights, no food and no water. and they're still not back.
we found somebody interested in adopting it. my friend and i are splitting the vet bill (214 dollars). we're going to let them think it escaped, which it did, and that it disappeared rather than see it starved again. you can feel every bone in his little body.
he's a little lover, loves to sit on my lap. i can't take him, already have 9 and my friends have all cats too. i figured it's easier to get him adopted if he's already fixed. i hope it all works out.

Are you even sure that it does belong to the students? If it did then they sure aren't responsible pet owners and the poor kitty needs a home where it will be loved and fed. Rehome it for sure..Thanks for caring

Do you know for sure the students that live there, actually owned the cat? If they do, I'm glad you found him, and are going to get him away from them. I hope he gets adopted soon!

That was a great thing you did. And you absolutely did the right thing.Whoever had that little cat wasn't taking care of the little dear. They don't matter. And they don't deserve to know a cat. The little cat's life and wellbeing is what is important.

It's wonderful that you found the kitten a new home.

You are a special person. Thank you for sharing this story.

You ROCK
!!!!! Thank God you and your neighbor pulled together and saved this kitten. You have done a great thing here and I wouldn't even bother mentioning this to those students. If it was their kitten, they obviously didn't care about it and were negligent. If it was not their kitten, it just made it's way into their garage looking for shelter. So either way, no explanation is deserved to them. Thank you for saving the sweet baby

i finally found a fur-ever home forthe black kitten. well, really my DH did.he was talking to one his friends that works for the railroad too and found out that his friend had lost both of his cats recently. they were both pretty old. he had just adopted a stray he'd found at work and was thinking of getting a 2nd kitty. the stray he adoptedis about 10-11 month old and all white. the one i found is 10-11 month old and all black. and the guy is partial to black cats. i'm so glad the kitten is going to a very good home. he is a total sweethart. he loves bellyrubs, is easygoing.he'd been staying at a neighbors garage so i've started to put a harness and leash on him and he loves it.he walks on a leash like he's been doing it forever.
i'm so glad he's going to somebody we know. i can still see him once in a while and get updates.
4 of our 9 cats are 'rail-road' cats.DH said almost everbody that works there has brought dogs and cats home. and we live about half a mile from UCR in Riverside so there never seems to be a shortage of strays

It was very kind of you to help the kitten in the first place; it's wonderful that you were able to find a good home for him!

P.S. he sounds like a very sweet little creature

his name is now Spooky and he went to his new home on saturday. his new owner, a friend of ours, said he's the sweetest cat he's ever known and they're making sure to introduce him slowly and 'by the book' to his other cat. and so far his girlfriend hasn't had any allergy attacks either.
