To quote Tom Lehrer...

I suspect those who spent 7 years criticizing President Bush and supported President Obama are currently feeling a little like a Christian Scientist with an appendicitis.

I can't find a recording of the remarks on youtube, but they were in the original introduction to "Send the Marines."

"What with President Johnson practicing escalatio on the Vietnamese and then the Dominican crisis on top of that it has been a nervous year and people have begun to feel like a Christian scientist with appendicitis. Fortunately in times of crisis just like this America always has this number one instrument of diplomacy to fall back on. Here's a song about it."

I've always found it odd that Tom says he quit performing because "politics aren't fun any more."

I wonder what kind of song Tom could get about the Nobel Peace Prize winner who has dropped the most bombs?

I'm waiting to see if the US is going to "intervene" in ALL the middle east countries that are killing protesters.

Do we have that many airplanes?

But if not...why not?

I would suspect they (and other Western countries) would only intervene if they need to protect oil or other commodities they need from those countries. If the country didn't have anything they wanted, they would simply let them work it out themselves. It's all very political IMO rather than really humanitarian. Cynical view no doubt but that's IMHO.

This is a good question, and one that has been asked for a long time, at least since WWI.

The answer, of course, is complex and probably disingenuous under the best of circumstances.

But this action puts this administration squarely in agreement with the actions of the previous administration and will (in fact, has) caused them much embarrassment and consternation among their supporters.

Yes, we thought it was the one positive aspect, that at least Obama would likely reduce our military presence in the middle-east so my sister and brother-in-law would stop having to be constantly redeployed and put in harms way.

Not exactly a pleasant surprise to find out that total deployment in the two theaters combined was actually a large increase over the Bush administrations peak "surge" forces. Definitely needs another Nobel peace prize for our American Ghandi.

Is it really that much to ask that politicians on both sides at least LOOSELY stick to their campaign promises?
