I found this precious little kitty, sick as a dog etc. Well fast forward 3 years later. He seems to be a Turkish Angora mix. Soft as clouds (okay silk). The problem is he keeps throwing up after eating. He is picky so I can only give him what he wants (one type of brand and flavor) It helps when I give him hairball remedy but when he throws up. But it's not fur that he throws up, it's his food within 3-7 minutes. He keeps it down when I do give him the remedy (which he hates) but it seems that something i have to do almost everyday.

He is about 4 years old, only 6-7 lbs. He is totally healthy according to my vet after spending hundreds for blood test, xrays etc to make sure he is fine. They can't give him pills or liquids for his throwing up because he will either lock his jaw or throw it right up.

The vet said he is very skinny but we can't do anything about it.

He has dry food all the time and most times does not chew it.
Can food is twice a day and is Medley's Wild Salmon Florentine in a delicate sauce w/ garden greens. I put out a tablespoon, when he eats it I put out another and it stays there for hours. As soon as he eats it I put out another to feed him in small portions throughout the day. It doesn't matter if he eats a small portion or the full tablespoon he will throw up either amount.

If I put anything else down he smells it, tries to bury it and walk away without eating.

He doesn't throw up everyday, maybe anywhere like 2-3 times a week. If I am lucky and use furball remedy almost everyday it will be up to every other week. I just want to put more weight on him. Turkish Angoras are known to be slender but this is crazy slender.

Any advice to help keep his food down?

Link: He of course is the orange cat, the gray is his buddy the feral cat Taz.

Your baby sounds beautiful. I'm going to ask the Mods to move this to the Health Section in hopes that you will get more responses there. It must be frustrating to go through all the tests and not find anything. I hope she's better soon!

Just wondering what type of brand and flavor are you feeding now? Does he eat dry and canned? How often does he vomit daily? A little more info might help us help you figure this out.

If he's throwing up right after he eats he may be eating too fast. There are several ways to try to slow him down. If he's eating dry food you can put the kibble in a toy that he has to work to get one or two pieces out at a time. You can also set his dishes on a box or something to raise them off the floor. It seems to help if they have to stand up to eat instead of crouching by the bowl and scarfing it down.

If you were trying to link to a picture, it didn't work. All I see is the word "link".

Oh, and welcome to TCS

I had a cat who did that. Come to find out, she was allergic to the fish flavored canned foods! It could be that whatever you're feeding him doesn't cooperate with your system, and you might have to try to find a different food he will eat. Probably not something you want to hear, but it's not good for kitties to throw up repeatedly. It can cause problems with their teeth due to the stomach acids coming up.

Welcome and hooray- another turkish angora
!!!!!!!!!!!
I am sorry to hear that you are having problems. I too found my turk (trapped in a car engine) when he was very young. Dont thay have the softest fur? Gilbert has only thrown up twice due to food and that was because he was a little piggy and ate too quickly. He was always sick after about ten mins.
I have not had a problem with hairballs so far.... I comb him every day, he really enjoys it. Gilbert is a very small cat as well. Turks have a tiny bone structure - the rest seems to be pure muscle. Please, please send me a private email. I would LOVE to talk about our Turks more. I had not heard about this breed until Gilbert arrived.
Oh just wanted to say that Gilbert ate his kibble whole as well. I dont give it to him anymore.
