I was just typing a word document, and suddenly whenever I hit the space bar, there isn't a space, there's a dot on the screen. When I hit enter, there is an editing symbol for a new paragraph. It's very annoying, and it's in every word document on my computer. I can't figure out how to get rid of it. Help!!

Click the "Show All" button to turn it off.
It looks like a backwards "P" with two veritcal lines.
It is a toggal.

(This was Iceman, didn't have time to switch accounts)

On your tool bar, there's a button with a paragraph marker on it (it's right next to the zoom.) Click that button. Sounds like you accidently click the button and it shows all your spaces and line returns.

You have reveal formatting marks selected somehow. What version do you have? On the tool bar menu, go to Format/Reveal formatting. A menu box will appear on the right side of your word document. Look at the bottom and make sure the "Show all formatting marks" is UNchecked. At least that's how you do it in mine. It's the newest version (2002)

Ok, I figured it out. I had to go into Tools, then options, then formatting marks. I didn't go into it before, not sure what happened. Thanks for your help, I started looking a little more closely at the tool bar with your suggestions. Darn computers.

Mine appears to be stuck in one font style with bold format? Even when I change fonts, go to options and jump through all the hoops, I can't change the dang thing! Frustrating machine!
