Taking Urine sample to the vet-Good Vibes Please

Taking a urine sample down to the vet for Chester Cheetah Muffin. The last few days he has been drinking more and urinating more. I know all the issues that it could be I just hope it is the simplest of them all. He is 14 years old this year and healthy otherwise. No blood visible but it is a little cloudy. I am taking him in once they check it for a full exam but I thought I better take the sample while its fresh.

Everyone please keep your fingers crossed.

Vibes for Chester Cheetah Muffin. What he really needs is blood work, so don't delay getting that.

Lots of vibes - I know you're more nervous waiting on his test results than when you go to the doctor yourself!

That is the plan tomorrow. Bloodwork and a full exam. I was able to get the urine today so I ran it down there as quick as I could. I figure it is 20 minutes less waiting time if I they do the urinalysis without us there. He isn't a fan of car rides or going to the vet. Especially with the clinic cat, he doesn't like him much either.

Thank you all for the good vibes. I will update tomorrow morning.

So we are back from the Vet. Chester was a little cutie on the way there, rolling around in his carrier and meowing like a little kitten. He kept rubbing his head on the door. He never usually acts like that in the car. Once we got the vet of course the growling and hissing ensued because of all the smells and sounds. He was all talk of course, no one lost a limb.

Anyway, turns out my little love muffin is diabetic. The Vet seems to think I caught it early enough because I knew the signs. So we will get him regulated with Insulin and just keep an eye on him. I am still waiting on the full blood panel to come back. Otherwise the Vet thinks Chester is a healthy guy.

Thank you all for the vibes. I really appreciate it.

SO glad you caught it early! I know there are others with diabetic kitties here if you need any advice.

I have my Goofy who is a diabetic. He is the second one who has had it.

No dry food. I keep him on 2 units in the am and 1 pm. He eats Friskies wet...only certain ones. No gravy.

yourdiabeticcat.com is very good. Lots of food info there.

Your boy sounds like an absolute sweetie!!!

I'm sorry Chester is diabetic, but I'm glad you caught it early.

Whew, that's not too bad. I mean of course you'd rather he's in perfect health but this is something that can be controlled. Maybe even with diet after a while as others have posted.

Another excellent website in addition to the one already mentioned is

http://www.felinediabetes.com/

Please do keep us posted on your boy!

Thank you all for the website suggestions. I plan on getting deep into them later today. I gave him his first shot this morning, he just looked at me like "What was that, did you just poke me with something??" Then he went right back to grabbing his favorite toy to bat around. I feel lucky enough that I have the vet tech background and was able to notice the signs of something going on. I will admit I had tears come to my eyes when the Vet told me my suspicions were right on. It isn't the best thing but not the worst. I love my little Chester Cheetah Muffin!

<<<Hugs>>> It's always hard when our furbabies are sick. You can be reassured, though, that you caught it early... and you know / can learn the best way to manage Chester's health.

You've already been given the feline diabetic site I would have recommended, so I'll just add some background info... Dr. Hodgkins, the author of yourdiabeticcat.com, was once employed by Hills, so she has a unique insight into the PFI and its products. She is the author of Your Cat: Simple New Secrets to a Longer, Stronger Life, a well-researched and wonderfully informative book.

Dr. Hodgkins is also a contributing member of the Feline Nutrition Education Society and has several articles on their site, feline-nutrition.org, that you might find of interest at some point.

Best regards and good luck to both you and Chester!

Just talked with the vet. Chester Cheetah's bloodwork looked good, aside from the the high blood sugar.

Thank you all again for the well wishes! He is doing great with his shots. He just wants to play with the syringe cap while he gets his shot.

Thanks for the happy update! Many people don't realize that giving sub q injections to a cat isn't as horrible as it sounds. the needle is so tiny, they usually don't even feel it!

Continued vibes for

Chester Cheetah

Great news on the bloodwork!

And if we ever have to deal with insulin shots or sub-q fluids, I'll try not to be so scared at the thought of it.

And we'll be here to help you Laurie. Before my little Ootay got CRF I thought there was no way I could EVER do anything like give Sub q at home. But in another forum I had a friend who'd been giving sub q to his cat for several years already, so I knew it was possible, and with the support of him, and everyone else there, I did it. Learned, managed, it got easier as time went on etc etc.

It's amazing the things we find out we can do, when it comes to caring for our beloved pets. And once you develop one skill, and the confidence, other things come easier, too.

Great update, Lori. I'm so glad Chester's doing so well!
