As Charlie Sheen would say.
Got a Brome bird feeder (had em at Home Depot too, but didn't like their models) and so far its a huge success!

At first there were no birds for a whole week, but now they are swarming, lots of tiny ones and they have eaten half the seed I put in there already!

Set it up so I can see them waking up in the bedroom, and from the greatroom, all covered in windows.

Its also perfectly placed for these two's perches, and they are chirping and tail twitching away heheheh! Highly recommended!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Glad you're having so much fun with it!

We have Droll Yankee feeders that stick on to the windows. We're more interested in entertainment for the cats, so squirrels are invited.

Glad you're enjoying your bird feeder! When we got ours, no one went near it for about a week- maybe it takes that long for the store-chemical-factory-human smell to come off of it? I don't know. But we get lots of bird now, mostly house sparrows and house finches, the occasional goldfinch, some others I don't know yet what they are (i'm learning slowly!!), and even a woodpecker last week (don't know what kind, I didn't see it close enough). I probably watch them more then the cats do, but they're towards the back of the yard. I do want to get one of those feeders that sticks on the window- we have a window hummingbird feeder which is cool.

As for eating half the seeds already- did they really eat it all? Because our birds fling the seeds on the ground in a few days, and then they eat the seeds out of the grass until we refill the feeder, then they fling it out again.
But at least they're still able to eat.

I haven't seen too many birds on the ground, but I'm sure they spill some getting to the particular seeds that they want. Will have to watch closely.

Also need to get one of those bird books, so I can start to figure out whats what.

Yes, get a Peterson guide.

I highly recommend you get black oil sunflower seed. That is what I use in mine. Keeps me and Ari entertained.

Where my cats are
We had a feeder when we first moved in but it was cheap and moisture kept getting insdie it and eventually I threw it away. That and we had the tree it was in pruned and it leftme nowhere to hang any! I should be getting a new one this weekend though.

Mostly we were getting "cow birds." One day my DH and I were in our bedroom and he looked outside and was like "Woah!" There was a cowbird on the feeder practically emptying the thing for a swarm of them on the ground!! It was crazy!!
We also had several Cardinals last year. I think they were nesting in our bushes.

My grandparent's always did a lot of gardening and had several feeders and houses around their yard. Their backyard is like a bird haven. I love sitting there watching them. One year I took a ton of pictures of the flowers and birds and made a photobook up off Kodak's website. My Aunt helps keep up Grandpa's gardens now; so he can still enjoy them and all the birds.
