We don't have any type of air conditioning.....when we're hot we simply open the windows. However Kaymen usually sits in the window and digs, scratches at the screen until she gets a hole big enough to jump through.

I would really like to stop this, within the last week or so I've been able to open my windows to let some fresh air in and I don't want the cats getting out.

How do you guys stop this?

Every screen we have is claw proof. We automatically take out the stuff that is in them, and re screen with it.

It isn't cheap, but not too bad either. Hey, anything is worth keeping our kitties safe.

It is easy to do....remove the spline holding in the old screen, cut the new to fit. I use those clamps that you can buy for like a dollar at Depot or Lowes. You squeeze them to open and I hold the new screening in place while I replace the spline with a spline tool.

I usually work on the tailgate of my truck, it is a good height. Claw proof is fantastic. Just be sure to get the spline in nice and tight and all the way down in the groove. And make sure the screen frame is held in tightly. My dh actually screws them in from the outside in each corner into the frame of the window.

Oh hubby knows how to rescreen, trust me he's done his fair share, LOL

Now I feel stupid, I had noooooo idea you could buy claw proof screen. Is that what it's called? Or is it just aluminum screening?

I didn't know about this kind of screen until after we built our house. If we ever have to rescreen the back porch we intend to buy the pet proof.

This site has a number and an email addy for Canadian customers. It wouldn't surprise me if you could find it in a DIY store, as the brand is available here in Europe, too. It makes it a little darker than with ordinary screens, but it's tough and can withstand a lot of weight/clawing.

Any place they sell screening, you can get it. Sears, Home Depot, Lowes...I don't know what you have in Canada.

It's great......my cat gel has bitten it, dug at it, climbed it...it gets a little stretched looking in spots, but it has never torn. I have real confidence in it.

Good luck!

It sounds perfect!!

I can't wait to get it, she picks at 2 windows the most, one of the kitchen ones and my bedroom one. I'm so excited...haha.

When we ordered our French doors for the dining room, we paid extra to have pet screening installed. DH is going to put pet screening in the windows in our bedroom this spring, too.

On all the windows of my house I have pet screens. The windows are the favorite spots for my cats through the warm months.

Pet screening costs more, but it is really worth it. It's made of plastic, very tough, and black. So, it does let in less light compared to regular screens. But again, it's worth it.
