Can you help me solve this meezer problem?

*WARNING, LONG WINDED POST AHEAD*

I own 2 meezers both females, mother and daughter, the mother (TT) is 4 years old and she was bought about 6 months prior(before Misty) from a breeder. TT was in awful shape she was used as a breeding queen, had more then 4-5 litters(i believe she had more) before 3 years old. Was almost bald on the sides of her belly/ back, when i questioned the breeder she said *her fur is dry thats why its fallen out......uh huh* Took her to the vet and it was flea allergy dermatitis and full of flea bites. I asked the breeder to have she spayed BEFORE i took her home and that was the only decent thing the breeder did.

Did i mention the breeder had 22++ meezers under one roof, the males were kept in one room(it stank!) and the females were all over the place.

Treated the flea problem and the fur started to grow back very slowly, then about 4 months later she got sick, with pneumomia, another vet visit. I contacted the breeder for 2 things, i saw online that she was closing down her cattery and their was a chocolate point(Misty) i wanted to get away from the breeder. I told the breeder about all of the problems i had with TT and the $$$$ involved and that i would only take Misty if she was in good health.

The breeder agreed and i was given Misty(for free) ran to my vet with her and she in perfect health and she was spayed(breeder had her spayed before she could begin to breed)

TT and Misty don't get along at all. Misty is a very nervous meezer and she lives in our bedroom during the day, with the door open and she sleeps/plays in and around our bedroom. Misty tho loves us! I have 2 small girls and she not afraid of them or my DH, Misty however is VERY attached to me, at night will only sleep on my side under the covers with me!

In the evening we put TT who is out on the main level all day hanging out with us in the basement for the night, as soon as Misty hears the basement door close, she comes downstairs to be with us.

TT will not allow Misty downstairs during the day she will chase her away, by glaring, waiting for Misty to move so she can attack. TT is not allowed in our bedroom anymore because Misty will defend *her turf* Misty will growl, hiss and chase TT away. This has been going on for months.....To top things off we are moving to another city 3 hours away with both cats.

I know i need to re-introduce them. I have read everything, talked to my vet about it. I tried it before and because Misty is so nervous its really hard!!!
TT's scent leaves her scared silly and her *safe place* is our bedroom.

What else can i do?? Should i do the re-introducing now, or wait until we move and get settled in the new place??

My vet did say whatever i do Misty needs to be at the new place first, without TT so she can *mark up the house with her scent, not TT's*

Were it me, I'd do the reintroduction after you move. The territory will be neutral that way. Sometimes, stirring things up like in a move can be a blessing when you're trying to get cats to work together. The move may be a great opportunity to at least get them to coexist if not hang out.

I don't know that I agree with your vet so much. I would think separating them in the house and doing a slow introduction should suffice though I don't doubt your vet probably has more info than what you may have listed in the thread so maybe there's something there I'm not seeing.

If you haven't yet read the threads on introductions on these forums there's some fantastic information there. I'd add Feliway diffusers to the house as soon as you get there, too.

You may want to do a post in the breeders forum and ask them about the best ways to handle a formerly bred cat. I would suspect that some of TT's behavior is a result of being a mom so many times. She probably doesn't think much of other cats being around her after her experiences in a crummy breeder's place.

The thing is TT is very dominant and Misty is very nervous, the only time she is not stressed is when she is in our bedroom or when TT is in the basement even then she is still on guard.

So it very hard for Misty to establish her *turf.* One thing we may do is, my DH is going ahead without us, he may take Misty with him and let her de-stress and establish her *turf* without TT. Just an idea nothing is set in stone yet......

I may go ahead and buy the feliway diffusers and start to use them now, just to see if it does make a difference.

Ditto howtoholdacat! I don't think I'll ever be without the diffusers again. Made a world of difference in my household.
