Moving semi-long distance

Please give me advice for moving a semi-long distance. We are closing on this house tomorrow at 4pm, and will be staying at my parents' lake house for the night. I have that covered with the cats, I just don't know about the drive. From here to there is around 8 hours, but we can't go to the property until after closing, which is at 4:00. It will be around 5:00 or so until we get to the property, b/c the title company is in Branson, MO but the house is about 30-45 min from there. We are leaving here sometime between 6 and 7 am.

The cats will be riding either in the car that my SIL is driving or in the moving truck with DH. The boys will be together in a big carrier, Nora in her own smaller one. We are bringing their litter boxes already filled b/c we don't want to have to deal with finding litter when we get down there (we are going to be living in the middle of the country). Should we schedule times for them to attempt to use the litter box? Would they even do that in a car?

Should we cut off their food at a certain time the night before and not feed them until we get to the house, or should we feed them normally? I'm not sure they would even eat if we gave it to them. I really don't want accidents in the car if at all possible, but we are bringing wet wipes and paper towels just in case of that or car sickness. I'm really not sure what to do in this department.

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!!

I would not feed them for about 2 hrs before you leave to give them a chance to use the litter box before traveling. Just make a light meal (maybe 1/2 of what they normally get).

When showing cats they get a little in the morning before the trip and the rest when we have the cage set up in the show hall or in the hotel (whichever comes first).

Bring along a roll of paper towels and a plastic or paper bag to toss it in if there are accidents. I NEVER put a litter pan in a carrier - when we stop to eat we let the cats out and then feed/water and give them a chance to use it.

Also be sure you take several gallons of filtered water or water from home so there is no sudden change for them to create an upset tummy. We ALWAYS bring our own bottled water to the hotel/cat show so they have "water from home".

I have no experience in moving a cat long distance, and I know this is a few days too late, but I just wanted to say congrats on finally selling your house and moving!! And best of luck with everything!!
