hi everyone! wondering if anyone can offer some advice?
my partner and I have 4 cats who get on well, apart from one thing. one of them keeps aggressively humping another. They are both neutered and have been from when they could be. the humper is 9 and the humpee is 8. I understand the dominance idea is fair game but they already have a very clear understanding of who is 'boss'.
it is happening more and more regularly with this evening being 4 times in 1 hour and if I do not stop it it can last for a good hour of repetitive mounting. he bites the scruff of his neck and it is leaving small wounds. the humpee is quite a slight cat so doesn't really have a chance of defense. I have tried letting them sort it out by themselves but it just seems one is being really targeted.
any ideas on why and how I can prevent it? to break it up I have tried sudden noises to scare him off and also removing him from the room completely.
thanks so much for any advice!
