Hello, everyone.
We've been cat lovers for only a few years. We were spurred into action when my daughter discovered that there was a family on our street who were letting their fertile female roam the neighborhood and she'd just had another litter. She brought home a tiny calico in the hopes that I'd soften my heart (and that my and my son's allergies wouldn't be too terribly triggered). She was a charming, playful little scamp, and we all fell in love with her. My daughter was studying Japanese, so we named her Kameko, which means "little turtle."
When she reached 6 mos, we took her to our vet to be spayed. It was the saddest day; little Kameko turned out to have had a heart defect that caused her to pass away during the surgery. We were devastated.
Soon, we realized we needed to fill the void left by Kameko, so we went to our local no-kill shelter and brought home a pair of ginger sisters that were about 12 weeks old. They had been rescued from a situation similar to Kameko's - owners who were letting their cats breed indiscriminately, leaving hungry kittens to fend for themselves.
My daughter officially renamed the girls Tifa and Lulu, but everyone else calls them Peaches (the all-orange one) and Cream (the orange and white one).
Peaches (aka Lulu) is the Big Queen who started out hating everyone, but who now demands tummy rubs from all her loyal subjects and isn't a bit shy about demanding her breakfast be served at 5:30 SHARP!
Cream (aka Tifa) is the Spoiled Princess. She was the playful, interactive kitten who convinced us to take the pair home, and she remains the more attention-seeking of the sisters. She will not let me sit quietly in HER living room; I must always be employed in entertaining her with the Evil Red Dot. And I must allow her to drink from my water glass. Water from a dish on the floor is for peasants.
I have recently begun TNR work with a colony at my office in an industrial park, so I'll be hanging out in the Feral Forums, reading others' experiences. I'm currently hosting a young male in recovery from surgery and I'm interested in the possibility of socializing him. He's a beauty and I'd like him to have a chance to be loved.
