More "mixed" news, but I believe to be good.

This morning the report is his RBC is up to 20! Still on the rise. This is actually the highest its been since March 17. March 17, he was at 18.5.

His electrolytes are still low and his liver numbers have gone up. They said his bilirubin is at 6.2. ALT, I think she said that, is down. (not sure what that is).

They're going to put a needle in to pull some cells to see exactly what's going on. They don't want to do a biopsy because they say it would be a lot for him to go through.

As expected, she said it's time for a feeding tube. They're going to do the one in the neck this morning. That was she can pull it out once it's time. Also she said it is less stressful on him.

I asked about when he can come home. She said maybe Tuesday, Maybe wed. just depends on how he responds.

I asked her over all opinion, since she said she last saw him on Friday. She said guarded. She said because of the underlying FeLV, it's like taking one step forward , 2 steps back. She also said he's young, at 10 months, so it's tough too.

She was also cautious about the RBC being concentrated from dehydration.

I asked his overall look and feel. She said very good - he's alert, purrs a lot, and so on.

While I understand this is still a very critical moment, I just see a overall improvement.

RBC is highest in a long time. Logan has been "dehydrated" for over 2 weeks now. When they did the RBC test back on the 17th, he was only occasionally getting fluids injected in the back, and when they did the test he hadn't had fluids for several days. Therefore, it seems to me that relatively speaking, we're at a positive here.

Still praying for your Logan. This sounds like good news to me and the fact that he is more alert and purring
shows he is feeling better too. I sure hope he will be well enough and strong enough to go home Tues. or Wed.
He certainly is a gorgeous, handsome boy...you are taking such incredible care of Logan

I haven't been on TCS for a few days and was really wondering and worrying about Logan!

You've been using the feeding tube for a bit now... how's everything going, and how is he? I'll go check the link to the other forum too....

OK, saw the updates on the other forum. I don't know anything about the liver issues, but you seem to be getting really helpful information there.

his hematocrit at least stays stable, and I hope he's able to come home! As Traci pointed out, pets usually do better at home. They have all the familiar smells and scents and love, and it reminds them why they're fighting with you.

Logan has finally arrived back home!
Although he is very tired, and very weak. We're in the rebuilding phase now.

Just to catch up people who might be searching and researching:

After 3 weeks of illness, 2 of them with Fever of Unknown origin, Logan was finally diagnosed with: IMHA - Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia.

Logan is also FeLV positive (Feline Leukemia).

So, the fever which he had was a result of the inflammation from the anemic condition where his white blood cells (WBC) was attacking virus in his red blood cells (RBC).

The anemia caused him also to stop eating. (He is still not eating on his own). As a result of his not eating on his own, he has developed liver problems including hepatic lipidosis and neutrophils in his liver which is indicative of an infection in the liver.

Let me recap:

Conditions: FeLV positive, with IMHA.

Results: Fever for 2 weeks, RBCs went way down to a low of 8 (you're on the borderline of critical and can crash at any time that low), Lack of eating, which led to liver problems.

How we are working to get Logan healthy:

1. Steroids to combat the IMHA. Prednisone, to be specific.
2. We had to do 2 transfusions in 24 hours. The first one worked for 8 hours, but his RBC dropped to a low of 8 by morning. Transfusion 2 has held, combined with an aggressive steroid treatment, he has maintained 17-20 for the past 4 days.
3. A combination of medications including antibiotics, steroids to counter all above issues.
4. Feeding tube in the neck. Logan still doesn't eat on his own. We feed him with a syringe through a tube in his neck. This sounds crazy, and it is, but really, is very easy if you take your time, and he doesn't really notice or bother him. Once he starts eating on his own, tube comes out. We are giving him IAMS high calorie (vet wanted this over the Hills AD due to higher caloric content).

That's where we're at now. I think it looks very positive for Logan. He is very weak. He was SO active before - but, as everyone has said, he's been though a lot. 2 weeks of fever and 1 week in the ICU with 24/7 care, poking, proding, medications, transfusions, needles for blood work, and so on.

The next big day is friday for checkup to see how his numbers look.

Naturally, I'll keep updating. Thanks SO much for everyone's support so far.

If you're researching this, and you have a cat with a fever of unknown origin for more than a couple of days, get a blood test! Our first test showed everything fine. 4 days later we did another and values were dropping like crazy.

HE'S HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, it must be so nice to have him back with you.

Logan is so very lucky to have such wonderful parents.

Force feeding, or tube feeding doesn't sound crazy at all. Anyone who's had to face hepadic lipidosis (also called fatty liver disease), kitties with renal failure, or just sick kitties not eating, has had to do it.

Continued for a successful recovery!

You must be so thrilled to have Logan back home and I am sure he is soooooo relieved to be home too. I am still sending many caring vibes your way. You have been through so much with Logan and are a wonderful caring person for all you are doing for him. I certainly hope things level out with his issues and he has a good check-up on Friday. Sending daily

OH DEAR, I cannot tell you how very, very sorry I am for you tonight. Oh you were the best for Logan, please know that. You did sooooooo much to try to save his life and we were all praying for that miracle. It was just his time but much tooooooo soon. Oh hun, my heart aches for the loss you are enduring right now and you have to know how much we care about you and what you did for your Logan. He is now at peace and I only pray you will find peace in all of this in time. This has been a very emotional time for you with the ups and downs of his illness. He was given every chance and had excellent care so you have to know you did everything possible for him. FeLV is a terrible disease. You and Logan put up a good fight. I am so very sorry for you huge loss.

Oh NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Oh my heart is breaking for you! I know this sounds like an empty platitude, but just thank goodness he was at home. He was surrounded by love, and you were with him.

He couldn't have had a better Dad & Mom, and Feralvr is right. You did everything you could, and he had excellent care. But that's also what makes this so hard.

I am just so sorry. I know Logan is sending you all his love.
