Question About Malwarebytes

I read something in another thread about where you can run an online scan with MBAM, but can't figure out how to do it. I know how to run a scan by opening up the MBAM thing from my computer, but not how to run a scan online.

I also noticed something called a "file assassin" that you can run. What is that, and what does it do? Is it something I should consider running?

I don't know how to use the file assassin thingy. I have a shortcut to it on my desktop that the guy left on it when he cleaned up my computer. As for Malwarebytes, I don't know what someone would mean by doing an online scan with it. I just have my Malwarebytes set to scan in the wee hours of the morning when nobody is on the computer. Of course it runs in the background all the time.

As far as I know, Malwarebytes does not offer a scanner online. You'd have to download it and run the scan.

The FileASSASSIN corrects random errors associated with deleting files. Such as
-Access Denied
-The file is in use by another program or user. etc.

If you are not getting errors like that when deleting files, then it is of no use to you, really.

If you suspect you have a virus/adware/malware there are lots of free online scanners you can run, such as BitDefender.

When I had my computer cleaned, the man installed the Malwarebytes. He took off Norton as he said it slows down the computer too much. He also told me that Malwarebytes is the best out there he has seen and that none of the computers he has worked on and installed it has come back with a virus. It is a free download.

Just curious...do you have some program popping up that number? There ARE programs that will do that in an attempt to get you to pay to download a bogus virus program. The most common is the "virus scan" virus, a really nasty piece of work that took me most of a day to kill on my friend's computer, when he got it.

I have the free McAfee av that comes with an ATT account, plus Malwarebytes and Windows Defender. Had one little thing get through, but I put the computer in safe mode, ran Malwarebytes, and it cleaned it up promptly.

I've used Malware for quite a while now. Had a nasty bug on computer a couple of years ago and Maleware took care of it.

Just curious. Did MBAM "catch" the bug by using just a quick scan, or did you have to run a full scan? I normally do just a quick scan cuz I don't have the patience to wait for a full scan to complete. I think I may have a virus or something: I've been running quick scans with both MBAM & Avast, but neither one of them has detected anything. I'm wondering if I need to run a full scan in order for the bug to be detected...

MBAM will generally clean computer by running quick scan. The quick scan checks all active areas. The full scan checks the entire computer, which will pick up things in temporary files etc. You should really clean out temp files before running a scan.
