That's wonderful! Is that Jake's first time out on harness?

I am eager for the snow to melt so I can start taking my gang out again. Queen Eva has mostly only been out contained in her Castle, so I am excited for her to be in the grass.

It's his first time actually walking
Before that he would just roll on the ground trying to get the harness off. But finally he gave up and decided to just go with it!!

It's a lot of fun watching him take in all the sounds of nature, you can see him getting overwhelmed with it at first but quickly becoming attuned to the birds and finding where they are. The only downside to taking him out is, he will meow at the door every time I walk by it, and the more I take him outside the more he does it. So every weekend he wakes me at 6 am and goes straight to the door and start meowing as if going outside is the most important thing and something terrible will happen unless I open it and take him out ASAP.

With time he may come to realize that he will always be getting out again, and not feel the urgency of reminding you all the time.

Mine never ask to go out, or try to dash out the door, but they know what Out and Harness mean.

Well....I suspect Queen Eva might be a bit of a door dasher given half a chance, so I'm going to continue doing what I did at first...that is... take her out in a carrier, then let her out of the carrier onto the grass.

This way she doesn't associate going out with the door, only with the carrier. She walks right into the carrier.

I want to get a harness for Patch. Isn't the leash supposed to go on top? So, they don't continually trip over it?

yea, it is in a perfect world situation but with moving about it gets twisted I just didn't happen to fix it during the part shown in the video lol

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Look at all that lovely Jake fluffiness! I really didn't realize what a BIG boy he's become! Gary was REALLY impressed seeing him walk on his leash LOL. I didn't tell him it was the first time he's actually walked.

He's just so darn CUTE!

You do have to train them to accept it. Leave the harness lying around until it becomes a familiar object. Drape it on Patch when he's having a nap. Practice doing the clips on a stuffed animal before the first time you put it on him.

And it takes time sometimes for kitty to get the knack of stepping over the leash and such. Start with just the harness, and then add the leash.

Once they make the connection between harness and a walk outside, they seem to adjust pretty quickly.

Mazy was 8 months old when she was trained, she had Tolly as an example, and she got the hang of it the second time I put it on her. Tolly, who has been wearing a harness for 9 years, still has trouble, but he manages. Jennie, hehe, walked like she was carrying a 50 pound load for quite some time. After a while she forgot about it and moved easily, until she saw me looking at her, then she would suddenly be weighted to the ground. Jennie had both Tolly and Mazy as example.

Queen Eva, the first young kitten I've ever trained, took to the harness from the very first time I put it on her, when she was 10 weeks old.

Jakey, sorry I hijacked your thread!
