I took in a cat from a young lady who was moving out of the country supposedly. She is a small female and come to find she isn't spayed...also found out that this girl had been letting her outside the past few months, (and claims she can't get over the fence or wall attached to it, but I find that doubtful). This girl is supposedly almost a year old at this point

I have not witnessed any behavior that indicates she's in heat, and I have another female I am caring for who is waiting in line to be spayed who quite obviously is in heat/going through cycles.

I'm starting to wonder if this lady was completely honest with me...So I started to read up on early signs and this girl has a couple things worrying me. She eats as if she's starving, her nipples appear abnormally large/long and the bottom two pair are very pink....I will try to attach photos. She also is VERY irritable and practically SCREAMS if I try to pick her up.

Any advice or insight on this? I would rather avoid an ultrasound at this point, but if I see any more signs, I will call my vet...Just figured I'd see what the forum says.

Thanks!

If the nipples are pinking and shes not just done nursing then I say pretty good shot. A male will find a way to meet up. I have seen a male get over the 6 foot plastic fence just cause he was let out under the same "theory" that the at wouldn't leave. He left and got neutered once he got by my house. You may want to go ahead and spay her as if you don't feel anything yet its still early on and just look at the market for kittens already
I counted 3 dozen near me(one lady has about 2 dozen alone looking for homes another has 8.

Not really the greatest news but spaying and neutering the new kittens(got to do it right and make sure none get into this situation as "stuff happens" and supplies will add up fast. bottle feeding sucks and C sections SUCK(call up an er vet for a quote on THAT)

Call and discuss with your vet your options.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

I agree with Catsallaround.
Many cats are good at jumping. I know of many females who can jump 6-7 feets (about 2 metres) as nothing much. Some few even somewhat more.
Males usually not quite so gymastic, but if a tom got eager! And not all toms need to be so agile. It is enough if ONE is...

Spaying in early pregnancy is no big deal, it doesnt not need be an expert surgeon.

Do begin the spaying sessions with her. Your other who surely is NOT pregnant - can wait a while, if you cant take them simultaneously.

Tx for helping this kitty!

Good luck!

It certainly sounds like she's pregnant- like the others said, if she was outside while in heat she'll find a way to get to a tom or a tom will find a way to get to her.
If you can't see her belly starting to enlarge at the sides, spay is an option, although it is a personal choice. Also, you would have to ask your vet about it, since some vets don't do the procedure.
If you do decide to have the kittens, you're going to need to start her on kitten food now for her to get extra nutrients, etc, and we can go from there
