Garlic

Because Frontline spot one was out of stock for weeks and it was application time, my babies got some fleas on them.
I got them that Brewer's Yeast and Garlic supplement. It helped get rid of the fleas but two of my cats vomited after a week of taking the stuff. I think it may be the yeast?
Anyway, is it okay to just mix some powdered garlic in their food? And if so, how much do I put?
By the way, Frontline is available already but I want to be sure my cats are flea free in case the shortage happens again.
Thank you.

Funny I always hear this back and forth...Years ago I had a cat eat Lick your chops food(I bought online first mainly(only?) lamb food I saw)

He had liquid poop cause he was never fed...he got scraps and lived like that for a year. He also had no medicine applied(was very underweight and had to be fixed as a heavy sprayer and thought anything more then the basics which in vets opinion included shots day of neuter may be to much more.

He had no fleas till the next year...was it cause 3 of the 4 were treated...he did come into the house pretty heavily infested but flea combed and treated the others night before we picked him up( then the next am he stay over night at vet for neuter)

Lived in my room with no other cats...I would think it was a combo but I think there was so affect.

There's actually controversy over how bad garlic is, with the general agreement (among professionals, not people on an internet forum) being that small amounts of garlic aren't life threatening. This is why you'll see it in cat food.

Larger amounts aren't safe, as what was likely in those supplements. The thing is supplements like that are made up with dogs in mind and they can tolerate more garlic. Simply dosing down a little to cat size doesn't work, hence your cats couldn't handle it.

To simplify it further:
Fresh garlic, lots of garlic, or garlic supplements = bad.
Tiny amounts formulated in foods = ok.

Best to purchase extra Frontline and make sure the date is pretty far out. I know you've read the link, but garlic in the amount it would take to fight the fleas can make your kitties seriously ill.

Glad I only owned cats when advantage/frontline was available. I remember the torture(and now the sadness of the scene but didn't know back then) of the kittens with so many fleas I didn't want to hold them cause of the bites !I! got.

Poor kittens/cats were always reproducing on that side of family no one cared and the "base"(better term?) cat CAME from a shelter unspayed dirt cheap.

She had so many litters think they were doing that to all the cats and solved nothing but the short term issue
