A member asked me to post a picture of my elevated feeders. They are quite simple actually. Made out of old boards from a torn down barn. Easy to clean off and maintain (I just tip them and hose them off) and keeps the food away from the ground bugs and dirt etc---

dh had an old truck in the chicken coop and I normally feed them on the bed of that
that is kind like an elevated feeder

If rich makes me one of those i'll let him get rid of the truck

No it sure doesn't and in the last two weeks I have been phoning acquaintances and other sources and I have managed to rehome 5 of my ferals to other farms. That brought my numbers down to the manageable size of 12, but now with the new ones I saw last night, plus Cyclone that bumps the feeding number back up to 20! Sadly this morning on the way to town, I saw in the road one of the cats who came to feed last night.
So I suspect they are crossing the busy road to get here wherever they are coming from! My only option is to trap them quickly get them neutered and spayed and re-release them, because right now everyone is full up on cats, and these are all older ferals not babies-
I have heard of a reclusive widow living near the river who has over 32 ferals on her property and she won't do anything but feed them, so I suspect that is where they are coming from- I don't know for sure.

I could just dismantle all the feeders and stop giving the cats a midnight buffet...............nah, I can't do that, someone has to see to these cats, and around here looks like that someone is me.

Oh MA, I'm so sorry! 32 cats and feeds them but doesn't spay/neuter? With that many cats reproducing the stream of kittens and cats will never end. That is so, so sad.

I am surrounded by ignoramuses!
A farmer down our back road has over 40 ferals. He will not trap them says he "feels sorry for them when they are in the traps!" GRRRRR! So he just lets them roam and inbreed. He has no idea what damage he has done to a colony and he does not seek vet care, he just lets them fight amongst themselves and when the kittens are born with birth defects, he just shrugs his shoulders and says Oh well!

that is so sad!!!! I think it is cheaper to fix them then to just let them breed. Kittens eat ALOT and then they will make more cats and more cats. Some people just have no sense!

MA - when I was worried that a neighboring farm was putting out poison for cats, I printed out information on TNR and the SpayUSA "poster" on kitten multiplication... We asked them to find out if they were putting poison out. Turns out they weren't and don't have a cat problem, but if they see any ferals that aren't ear-tipped, they're going to give us a buzz. I expect you don't have the time to trap all your neighbors' cats - but perhaps you could put together a small package of info for them - and even anonymously leave it in their mailboxes? It can't hurt.....

Just a thought.

The ignorance of people can be stunning. It is almost enough to make me want to throw up my hands and walk away from it. But, when I look out at my little feral group soud asleep on my back porch, it reminds me that even if I can help only a few, it is worth the effort.

Hissy, Do you get help or a good discount for altering the ferals you take in? If not, that must get expensive.

No I don't get any help, I used to get help from well-meaning townsfolk but that petered off after awhile. It all comes out of our own pockets and we just put the needs of the animals first before ours.
Their needs are greater anyway.
