An auction for Shell

Thread Starter
Have you "met" Shell yet? If you haven't, you really should! This little cat is an inspiration and just an amazing little girl!!

Would You Help a Shell of a Cat?

But all of that inspiration and fight that Shell has in her doesn't pay the vet bills. So our very own Carolina brought Shell's plight to the attention of the wonderful people at CatBlogosphere's Auctions and from there it turned into a whirlwind.

The auctions have started at http://catblogosphereauctions.blogspot.com/ and there is some truly amazing things there! In summary, you get cool stuff, donate money to a good cause, for a cat that we know and love. It truly is a win, win, WIN!

A tiny bit about Shell, from the intro to her auction:

Quote:
When [the vet] looked in her mouth he discovered rodent ulcers, two teeth almost rotted through, stomatitis and gingivitis. Add to that, she is bone thin, suffers from Fragile Skin Syndrome (her skin will tear if you aren’t careful). She needs to be handled gently. She has feline herpesvirus, UTI and URI compounding her problems. She is unable to clean herself and if she scratches her skin, it breaks open and bleeds.

Her journey is long and is just beginning. She has many vet visits to not look forward to in her future. But, she is safe, she has all her basic needs; food, shelter, fresh water, clean litter pans and a caring vet.

Furriends helping Furrends.

Hi there! I actually have a shop on Etsy where I sell my jewelry, and I'd be happy to donate a custom-made piece or two... who would I need to talk to about doing that?

I'm looking forward to being able to help Shell!

MA, I am so very sorry for the loss of Shell. You were an incredible savior for her these past weeks and she was loved every second and she knew it. She put up a big fight to continue on as best as she could and wanted to do it for you, because she loved you too. So very, very forlorn of this news. She was loved my many

Free and young at the bridge Shell you will be missed and never forgotten. Ever.

Hi friends,
Yesterday was a very very sad day as we lost our little girl Shell. I will cut and paste something I wrote in response to one of MA's post in her blog, called "It Mattered":
Quote:
Oh MA, it did matter… so much!
Shell came like a hurricane – fast and furious, to show us: Pay attention! Look around, look at the forgotten, and when you pass them by, take a step back and take a second look… She came to show us how precious time is, how powerful love can be, and that there is still undeniable faith and beauty in humanity.
So many people from around the World came together to help saving her tiny little life… People who had never seen her, never touched her, but yet loved her like one of their own.
It was just so beautiful to watch… Shell was surrounded by angels… Now she is one of them…
Shell did matter… a lot… for each one of us who had the luck to be part of her journey….
Hang in there MA,
Love,
All of Us
I wanted to thank you all so much for being part of this beautiful Journey...
I also wanted to note here, that even though sweet Shell has ran to the bridge, she has left behind huge vet bills, so we will continue the auctions, and perhaps extend it to make sure MA has what she needs to cover those bills and take care of her babies .
The link for the auction is the same: http://catblogosphereauctions.blogspot.com/
There are two events running right now: Week 2, which ends midnight of April 4th, and there is also an Auction in Memory of Shell of a beautiful necklace that was made especially for her.
Both can be found on the page. When you open the auction page, you will see the necklace first - if you want to bid on it, place the bid right below it.
If you want to bid on the auction, scroll down to see the other items and make you comment in the end.
PM me if you have questions.
Thank you so much for your support, love, purrs, vibes and prayers...

I just placed a bid on two items. I'm so sorry little Shell didn't make it, but highly commend all those going above and beyond to help one sweet little kitty who was neglected through no fault of her own.
I'm another one who is just devastated about this.

I'm so sorry, hissy, that you lost her. You both put up a valiant fight to try for a better outcome.

She knew love and care and compassion in this life, thanks to you.

I'll never forget her.

RIP little one.

I just have to ask - was it really necessary to post a pic of Shell's lifeless body on the auction blog? I'm now a blubbering mess after seeing that.

I've been following Shell's story since almost the beginning, and even though I never met her, she really found a special place in my heart, and I'm just heartsick that she didn't make it.

I didn't know where else to post this, since the thread concerning Shell was locked, so I posted it here. I just had to vent my feelings over this because it has really affected me profoundly. Seeing Shell's lifeless body like that has got me really shook up, and I don't think that pic should have been posted like that. I wanted to remember Shell as she was in her final days, when she was looking healthier.

I will never forget you, Shell. You will always have a special place in my heart. Rest peacefully, you sweet, precious baby.

The only picture of her I am seeing is one where she is getting scritches on her head...don't see any lifeless body pics.

There is no picture of Shell's lifeless body on the Auction site, and we would never, ever do that.... That picture was taken weeks ago and it is of Sweet little shell enjoying head scritches, stretching and giving her mommy headbumps Like you, we all have fallen in love with little Shell We all have broken hearts... And a deep respect and concern for Mary Ann and her pain right now... The love this little girl brought into our hearts is hard to put into words, and to even think of doing something like what is said in this post is beyond imagination...
I am so sorry you felt this way... I am posting a larger picture so you can see Sweet little Shell better... and see that she was very much alive and happy to be receiving love from her momma

I apologize for thinking that the pic was taken after Shell had passed. I didn't think that anyone could be so insensitive to do something like that, but that's what it looked like to me. Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive to Shell's entire story, and that she didn't make it after struggling so hard and after all that Ma did to save her. And I guess the way she was laying there made it look like she was gone: it brought back painful memories of my precious Maverick after having him put to sleep - memories that I try desperately to not remember....

Again, I apologize, and I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

This misunderstanding, I think, is because so many of us are so upset about this. It is because we are emotionally so distraught. I was shocked by the passing of Shell. I didn't see it coming. I wasn't prepared. Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention, but I thought she was getting better. I didn't realize that her end was so near.

I've hardly thought of anything else, just Shell, for the last two days. As bad as I feel, I know MA is feeling a hundred times worse, And I wish I could help in some way,

All I can say is that she did all she could. And I know with all my heart that Shell knew she was loved at this untimely end, she will never leave MA, and she is grateful for her love.

I just wanted to answer this because there are some photos in the collage that look like she is dead- but I assure you she was not. She was just plumb worn out. I suspect her tongue hanging out gave you the impression that she was dead, but again- she was just sleeping or hanging out, or rather her tongue was. When I was asked to present the people holding the auction with a final photo, I was hard pressed to find one where she even showed a bit of life.

Shell was tuckered, she was worn out and ravaged with oral cancer. She barely left the top of the cage in the last few days before I decided to let her go. I had no idea, nor did my vet how bad her mouth really was because she would clamp her mouth closed and refuse to open it if we wanted to examine her. She couldn't withstand the anesthesia so she was never really probed. It was only after that we understood the full extent of the damage that had been done to her and now, I don't even have a clue how she even ate anything at all.

I wasn't prepared to lose her. After she passed, the blog entry I did was the hardest blog entry I ever had to make. She was special in ways I am still understanding and she has made a difference not only with me, but with people globally. There are currently 75 comments left on my initial blog post about her passing. 75! What an impact this emaciated kitty who never knew love or comfort till she came here had on a lot of hearts-especially mine.

I'm so sorry Shell lost her fight, but she's the winner now. No more pain and suffering.

I bid on two items in the week #2 auction, but I didn't bookmark the page and now I can't find the auction again to check on the bids. The link takes me to a page that shows the special necklace auction and week #1, plus a week #2 auction for Bugsy & Gracie. So what happened to week #2 for Shell.

I think they are collecting data from it right now and preparing for the next week's auction. From what I understand, hundreds of items are pouring into their email bins in honor of Shell. Boggles my mind!

I have a copy of the master list of winners, tell me what items you bid on and I will take a look and let you know- let's do this via PM okay?
