U.S. gas prices a joke

U.S. gas prices are a joke ... in Norway

Quote:
Most Europeans pay at least double what Americans do. Some of them, including the Greeks and the Scandinavians, shell out even more.
In the U.S., the nationwide average for the price of gas was $3.53 per gallon on Thursday, according to AAA. The price has risen for 16 consecutive days, jumping 34 cents.
But that's still less than half the $9.28 per gallon paid in Oslo, according to Din Side, a Norwegian search and news site that monitors gas prices, among other things.
Who's paying what: Most Europeans, including the British, the Irish, the Germans, the Italians and the French, pay somewhere between $7.50 and $8 per gallon, according to the International Energy Administration.

Yeah, when we lived in Japan (16 years ago), gas prices (with the exchange rate at the time) were about $1.50 a liter, so about $6 a gallon.

It is worth mentioning that those countries, in general, are much smaller than the U.S. (so even if you truck something all the way across the country, it's still not very far!), have lower speed limits (except on the Autobahn, I guess), have excellent public transportation, and are much more pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly. I'd love to not have to drive so much, but it's basically impossible around here. We're much more dependent on gasoline.

They get good deals on crude, its just taxes, taxes, and more taxes.

And its not just gas, its electricity, heating oil, natural gas, etc... chachiiiiiiing! Food seems to be the only thing thats not inflated. I hear non-stop complaining from my German relatives about it, but hey, all that "free" stuff has to be paid somehow.

I saw a previous post that gas in England is equivalent to ten US dollars a gallon. Americans have not been used to these prices.

I don't bother paying attention. I don't know how much I paid for it when I filled up this morning. The total was $27 and some change.

If it gets too high, I'll drive less or take one of the motorcycles...not a problem.

Don't come to Houston, our gas prices vary HUGE time between stations. The shell by my work is on average 25 cents higher than the krogers one by my house (although you get 10 cents off just for buying your poop there).

I have been riding my motorcycle more too though.

Suzuki DL650 = 55 miles per gallon
Chevy Impala SS = 55 gallons per mile
