Okay I'm asking for advice here because I'm going crazy!! I'm only in school part time and it's my last semester before I graduate.
Being in school part time is giving me sooo much time on my hands, I have two classes, one of them has no attendance policy and the professor posts extremely detailed lecture notes online, so I don't even go to it because i see no point in driving for 30 miles for 1 class when i can do fine just by studying on my own. The other class is a seminar class that meets once a week for three hours...
I thought about getting a part time job for this one semester, but it's such a short term kind of thing that I don't envision myself getting it for only a few months. I did try, but I couldn't find anything.
So what would you do if you were in my situation to keep yourself sane?? I want to do something productive, not spend all of my time reading or watching TV but I just can't think of anything to do...
And the worst part is I end up sleeping 15 hours a day which is soooo bad!! Advice???

You could volunteer at a shelter. You can choose to work as many or as few hours as you want, there is no long-term commitment, and you will feel great helping out animals every day. Plus, volunteer work is always good to include in resumes.

Volunteering sounds good.

You are welcome to come clean the constant devastation caused by my 14 month old. I never catch up on housework.

Since I retired I'm in the same boat - time on my hands.

I contacted the local senior's centre and volunteered my services to drive people to their appointments, hair dresser, doctor appointments, hospital visits, etc. I had to be police checked but no biggie. I'm enjoying meeting these older (than me) folks and I'm doing a good service in the community. The Senior Centre pays me a small amount to cover gas and wear/tear on my car so that's nice too.

And, as another said, volunteer at a shelter. My problem with that is that I end up in tears and it's very difficult for me.

Volunteer somewhere.

You still pursuing environmental law? Is there some type of environmental group where you could volunteer to help out around the office or with research or something?

That's a good idea.
The only downside to that (for me, anyway) is that I would probably get too attached to the cats and want to bring them all home.

Or you could volunteer anywhere, for that matter.
Or start a new hobby.

I video tape myself dancing in leopard print undies and post it on the internet. Not sure if that helps. Just kidding, yeah the volunteering would be the altruistic way to go.

I'd like to do more fitness related activities, but laziness rather than time constraints are a concern. I like mountain biking around parks, as its entertaining too, and that actually takes quite a while. If you have CLEAN water nearby kayaking and the like are also fun, just depends on what you have nearby.

I already volunteer so when I have any free time I love to read or cook for people.

I keep wanting to make youtube videos cuz I watch a lot of vloggers and I get inspired but I dunno I just feel silly somehow ...it seems like a cool productive way to spend lots of time though, if I could get myself in the right mindset

I do tape myself talking to Jake though and I take a gazillion pics of Jake
As far as volunteering, it's
a
bit
complicated because I don't want to volunteer unless I'm earning some sort of income, I just feel like now if I go volunteer I'm really volunteering my parents' money cuz they are the ones who pay for my education and living expenses, so indirectly it seems that way, especially if I pay for gas to get to the place I'd volunteer at
And that just seems wrong to me. Maybe it sounds like I'm overanalyzing it, but it's just how I am.
The problem is I feel like I'm losing brain cells this way, I do read a lot but my mind's sharpness and clarity is decreasing because I just sleep so darn much!! I dunno, I'm trying to turn my routine back around so we'll see how that goes...
And I've been wanting to try writing a novel and I have this amazing idea so I'll try working on that..

How about a part-time job? Can you find something close to school that would work with your schedule the new few months?

I do understand this.
But if you volunteer or intern for free somewhere that will build your skills for your future career, it does benefit you and your potential. Also looks really good on a resume.

And I don't know about your parents, but mine always encouraged me to care about others. I think a little "altruism" won't hurt while you do have time before you start a career that won't leave you with any. Just a thought.

I have been trying to get one, but it's kind of hard considering how I only have a few months before I'll have to start a more permanent job- no one wants to hire me knowing I'd be leaving in two months

Two months can be considered a vacation. Write your novel if it is what you feel like doing on your vacation. Go window shopping, people watching, or something goofy and fun. You may not have this much time as your own for a long time.

Oh how I wish I had more time on my hands
. I say enjoy it while you can. If I do have extra time, I usually spend it with my cats and tend to their grooming needs and of course their cuddling needs

Volunteering in something that's in or close to your field is an excellent idea. Or do as krazy kat2 suggests and consider it as a bit of vacation before tackling school again.

If I find myself with a few minutes here and there, I just go for a walk. I also will tackle a closet that needs to be cleaned. Or kitchen cabinets. So often when I'm working on something and looking for a certain item or tool, I think, "Gee, this needs to be cleaned out or this could be organized."

Is there something that you want to do, but never seem to find the time while you're studying? If you like to cook or bake (and I don't remember who likes to do what on this board, so forgive me) and have some extra money, take a cooking or a baking class. Most classes are no more than about two months or so. Find out what local places have to offer and try something new. Or find something that's cat related, such as a CPR class for cats.

I would vote for napping or reading - that is what I do in my precious little spare time.

Or take up a hobby like beading. Volunteer in your carreer field.

Good luck
