Hi, all,

Thought I'd give a little update on Layla who, as you may recall, has lost weight despite a very good appetite. Bloodwork turned up a low B12 and nothing more. Ultrasound showed nothing but lots of gas in her colon.

I opted to try a 2 weeks of Prednisone treatment before going straight to endoscopy/biopsy. I just couldn't justify spending $2K and putting Layla through so much stress without at least trying the less invasive option first. I started the Pred on Saturday. She's getting .35 cc of liquid once a day.

She has also had a couple of B12 shots and will be receiving another tomorrow.

She is in great spirits, very active and animated, but doesn't appear to have gained any weight, despite increasing her food intake quite a bit since going on the Pred. Her last weigh in, about 3 weeks ago, was 6.15 lbs (up very slightly from 6.1 lbs about a week before that).

Her poop really does not look any more formed than it was before the Pred (I was hopeful that maybe the antibiotics she was on for her ear infection were causing the loose stool, but she's been off of them since Saturday).

I know I have another 8 days or so of Pred before we take her back in for weigh in, but I'm still concerned that this isn't working and we're going to have to think about getting a biopsy to look for lymphoma.

Any advice, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.

Did they do a thyroid test? Also, Arthur was loosing weight and we found his pancreas was not digesting his food and he wasn't getting any nutriants. I have to sprinkle an enzyme on his food 10 minutes before he eats so it is "pre digested" for him.

Just a couple thoughts, I hope Layla starts bulking up.

Yes, they checked for both thyroid and pancreatic insufficiency. Both vets (the specialist and my regular vet) are convinced it's either IBD or lymphoma. My regular vet said that IBD should respond very well to steroids, where lymphoma will not (or will respond only to a lesser degree).

Thank you for the good thoughts.

It sure does seem like her stool is getting even looser. She is eating only wet food for the most part so I'm not sure if that could be contributing; does Prednisone cause side affects like that?

And is there ANY other way I can test for lymphoma without an endoscopy?
