Is our cat insane?

Or just extremely hyper?

We've had her for about a month now, she's just started becoming like this. Do you think it's because she's actually settled in now? Or are we not exercising her enough?

Pretty much every day we play with her with both the laser pointer and a wand toy during the day and at night, Mike also plays with her a bit when I'm at work and if I have the day off I play with her during the day as well. Our play lasts anywhere between half an hour to an hour, or whenever she starts breathing heavily. She also plays by herself with some of her ball toys and catnip toys quite a few times a day.

We feed her her two main meals in the morning when we get up and just before we go to bed, she also gets a little bit of food during the day. In total, she's fed about 4 times a day, with her main (bigger) meals being in the morning and at night, and smaller "snacks" twice a day. She's fed both wet (Royal Canin Kitten) and dry (Royal Canin Siamese). She's only getting the kitten wet food right now until we run out, then we'll be switching her to the indoor wet. The guy that we got her from had given us a TON of the wet food. She's about 11 months old now.

The problem is that she goes into these crazy spells where nothing will calm her down. She gets a different look in her eyes, her ears tend to go back on her head and she just runs all over the place attacking anything that's moving or still. Yesterday I was on the phone in the bedroom, I heard her do her telltale scream and she came running in and attacked my arm. I shooed her away because I was on the phone, closed the bedroom door where she proceeded to scream and bodycheck the door until I opened it again. When I opened the door again, she came right back to attacking my arm.

Other times she will wake up from a deep sleep, do the scream, and just bolt and attack whatever is close to her - wether it's a toy, the dogs, a random spot on the floor, us, etc. Sometimes the attacking will be obvious play, other times it's full on biting and doing the rabbit hop thing with her back legs.

She is declawed and has always been a bit mouthy, but she seems to know how much mouthiness is ok with us. She will gnaw softly at my hand and kneed it while she goes to sleep if we're laying together, her ears are upright when she does this.

She does not like being locked in or out of rooms, she has always been like that. If we lock her out of the bedroom or another room she'll paw at it for a minute, then she'll start screaming and bodychecking the door. I had Mike go in the bedroom one day and I went into the other bedroom that's just outside of that one. I put a dental mirror under the door so that I could watch her and see what she was doing, she literally backs up from the door, then runs full speed at it and jumps up sideways and hits the door. She repeats this until we open the door and let her in.

She seems to be at a healthy weight, not overly skinny or fat.

Is this normal behaviour? I wouldn't really think anything of it except the timing is really inconsistant, it doesn't matter if we've just played with her or if she's just eaten, and because you can see her facial expression and her eyes literally change.

Some cats have thing called mad hour, some it is 30 minutes what I have read, but that happens because of energy build up if I don't remember wrong.

If cat has been outdoor cat amount of exercise he has got is quite a lot, it is quite difficult to match that amount at indoors I think.

Royal Canin kitten has high amount of energy from my memory, we have here new Royal Canin Calm, you might try that, also if she is not spayed she might be in a heat which makes cat do crazy things sometimes, spaying would be very good in many other ways.

I don't know yet too much from psychology of cats (I do try to learn everything about it just takes time), but if you give away and open the door she is ramming against, she will learn that it is to way to get door opened. I would think it would be better to say NO firmly, not loudly and if she continues hiss to her when she attacks to door, so she understand that is not wanted behaviour.

Also reward her if she manages to behave even door is closed, when you do this every time she learns it, but be consistent with it.

That is at least what I think, but more experienced ones might know things better.

She is spayed, and was never an outdoor cat. We got her from a nice gentleman that also lived in an apartment, he said that she had never been outside when she wasn't in a carrier (going to the vet).

Most of the time the door thing is not a problem, she's allowed to sleep with us so there is no point in locking her out of the room. She also likes go to in there because there's a shelf just under a window sill that she can jump up into.

She doesn't do it with the door to the other bedroom/studio, because she knows she's not allowed in there - she knocked a speaker down and almost broke it... still not sure how she managed that because the speaker is a lot heavier than she is, lol.

So I guess the problem is only with the one door... It's just kind of weird, she didn't have the crazy behaviour until the start of the week.

I haven't seen Royal Canin Calm here... I talked to the RC rep when we were at the store the last time, she gave us a bunch of samples and said if she likes the RC Siamese that it's ok to feed her that because she is at least part siamese (we were told that she was a full siamese with odd colouring, we didn't pay for her so we really don't care, but she has A LOT of siamese characteristics). Anyways, out of the few that we tried with her, the Siamese food was the one she liked the most.

Is there any change since start of week, food, sounds, odors?

It can of course be some event that is difficult to pinpoint that perhaps has effected her and now something related to that event perhaps sets her off? I'm not an expert so just guessing really.

Not that I can think of, I've been working and Mike's been home but that's our regular schedule. The dogs are acting the same towards her and in general as well.

I'm wondering if now that's she's been here for a bit she's starting to settle and really coming out in terms of personality.
