Cat Anatomy Question

Do cats have lips or is that just the edge of their face? My husband and I are debating this and your answer could help me win!

They do. Bottom lips are more noticeable - and on some cats, very noticeable. To what degree they function as lips similar to ours, I don't know.

The lips do function in somewhat the same manner as our do - keeping drool and food in the mouth and the bottom lip is mobile enough for the cat to remove stuck fur from a canine tooth. I didn't know this until I got Da Lip - he came to me with a huge scab where his bottom lip used to be and assorted abrasions aka road rash. He is missing from the left fang to past the right one. He drools constantly and is a very messy eater and comes to me when he has hair stuck. He does need food with gravy as he cannot manage pate style at all - another function of a good bottom lip.

Sweet! Two points for me! None for the hubby!

That's fascinating about your cat Da Lip! This question was right up your alley!

He's quite the Louie Da Lip - a girl in town found him, and I ended up with him. Was just a wee kitten, probably too young to be away from momma, and his mouth was so sore all he could do was drink, very messily. I locked him in the tackroom (warm, safe) and fed him Catmilk, milk replacer and watered down pate food so he could just lap rather than eat. He eventually healed enough to eat small kibble dry food, then I found chunks in gravey and fed him that. When they made shreds and gravy, he ate even more, and didnt spit out near as much. 11 years later, he is still happily eating shreds and gravy, making a huge mess while doing it. He even learned to hunt, although his kill record wasn't as good as the others - he would line up his kills on the tractor bucket for me He no longer hunts or even goes out now, hasn't been interested in outside for a few years now.

I'm not sure. We were just joking about it and I thought it was an interesting question. Wanted to ask the experts on the forums. Plus, I thought it was a funny question. I guess he's right in a sense. They're not exactly like ours. I guess then can still be lips though.
