blind cat getting re-adjusted to a cat after vet visits

My cat Joey was at the animal hospital all last weekend with some health concerns. Joey and Billy (my blind cat) are very close in age, were adopted into our home within about 2.5 mos of each other and have been very close from day1.
Since Joey came home Monday morning, Billy hisses at Joey if Joey gets anywhere near him. He typically just hides from him or hisses & then runs away. If we try to hold them both and let them smell each other, Billy just hisses and scratches to get put down and away.
I know it might take a few days...Billy can't see to know that it is his friend, and Joey obviously smells different from being away for 3 days. But it is very sad when Joey wants to play with Billy, and Billy just hisses or runs away from him. When Billy hisses, Joey just kinda looks at him and walks away. They don't try to fight or anything but IDK what to do. Should I just give it time?? Anyone have any tips on how to make this transition smooth for them both? Unfortunately Joey has another vet visit tomorrow, and a few more potential ones in the near future depending on how his health is doing, and I worry that everytime he goes, Billy will have trouble adjusting to him again.

Though I've never tired it, I've seen it recommended here numerous times that a drop of vanilla extract (the real stuff not imitation) put on both cats' chins and the base of the tails (under the tail?) helps because both cats then smell the same.

I've also read that rubbing the hissing cat down with a cloth, and then rubbing it on the one who has been to the vet, and the other way around, helps.

I'm thinking about Joey and hoping he is all better very soon. I'm so glad he is improving.

it just takes a little time for them to get used to each other again because joey smells unfamiliar, i was the same when flash was in getting spayed sooty hissed something terrible at her for a few days, i kept wiping her down and let them get on with it i ended up not needing to try the vanilla
