Bijou was overweight in June at his annual checkup at 24.5 lbs. The vet said 18 pounds would be a good weight for him. I took away his dry food and gave him only wet twice a day. He is now down to 20.5 lbs. I'm so proud of him.

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

That's wonderful! You should be proud of him. And of yourself!
Claudio was 18 lbs. at the vet's on December 19. He wanted him to lose 4 lbs. Since then, Claude gets 1/4 cup dry diet food twice a day (all get that so he could get more) and 1 oz. diet canned food a day. Most importantly, I took away his opportunity to eat up the canned food the others don't eat. He's locked up for half an hour during the canned meal. And all the bowls are picked up before he's let out.
As of February 20, he'd lost 1 lb. in 2 months. We are very proud!

Thanks Laurie. It was difficult when Mika was still living here but since she moved out with Mika, it's easy. Bijou used to go behind Mika and eat whatever she left in the dish.

Awesome!!!!

Put Bugsy on that list too

He went from a heft 21 to a 16.8

What changed? Removed a highly caloric Grain free (Orijen/Evo) from his diet and put him purely on His hypoallergenic food, which has about 200 less calories per cup. I am also making sure he eats all of his wet meals 2x a day - 1/4 cup in the am and 1/4 cup in the pm since his UTI, mixed with some water.
He is doing great, and his vet is haaaaaappy with his weight loss... I actually had to keep him from losing with his diarrhea, but that is a-ok!

Yaaay Bugsy!

One of those freekeeble questions, last week, I think, said that 50 million cats in the U.S. are obese. So, we're fighting that trend. Good for us, and Bijou, Bugsy and Claudio!
Any others out there have their cats on a program to lose weight? I don't know if we'll be able to keep up the 1/2 lb. per month rate. It may slow, and I may have to reduce his intake even more.
Claudio's weight loss is without much exercise, because he will not exercise. I got the Go, Go Dancer, and a Neko Flies bug, just for him, but he's not interested in participating. He watches the others. The 4 others are wild about these toys, as well as Da Bird. Claudio is lame, though, with a damaged foot, so I wonder if it hurts to run after those toys. However, he does chase the others a bit, and run up and down the basement and attic stairs, so it doesn't seem so. He will bat around a catnip mouse, or roll around with it, but not too vigorously. He just turned 7.

Carly is joining the club. I got her on all wet at the beginning of the year when she wasn't losing weight with the dry "diet" food. Since Jan 15 of this year, she has lost 6 oz. 12 lb 12 oz to 12 lb 6 oz.

He does let me know he wants his dinner when it gets close to feeding time but he has to wait. I love him so much I want to keep him healthy so he'll live a long, long time. He's probably the most affectionate cat I've ever had the pleasure of belonging to.
