So I'm training one of my cats, Loki. It's actually for a school project, but I like it a lot. Anyway, so far she knows sit, and I've been shaping her to jump through a hoop. I finally got the hoop up high enough (a foot), so today I started working with her on adding the cue. She got it in less than five minutes. I'm so proud of her!
Especially since it took her a long time to learn the cue for sit. I knew the first time would be the most difficult for her, but I had no idea how big of an improvement she would make. I was super impressed, I'm not sure I could have figured it out that fast

Anyway, I just had to share that, I've been telling everybody I know. It's not under stimulus control yet, so we still need to work on it more, but I'm pretty sure my kitty's a genius.

That is awesome! I'm assuming you are clicker training? I love training! It makes things so much more interesting! Visitors to my house are shocked at the fact that my cats perform behaviors on cue. LOL

Yep, clicker training. Isn't it annoying when people think you can't train a cat?
Loki is the most spoiled cat I've ever owned, and even she'll do it! Do you train all of your cats? What behaviors do they know? How long have you been training them? I have a lot of questions, I know

All of my kitties are clicker trained. I am working with Lilly right now, trying to make her nice! She has a lot of attitude. LOL Lilly will sit, sit up, scratch her post on cue, and jump up. I am also clicking her for polite behavior while I'm touching her. She is a total pill. She is learning to touch the target stick but doesn't like it that much. She will also sometimes head bump me on cue. Just depending on her mood at this point.

Pandora and Hurley both know how to sit, sit up, wave, jump up, jump down, touch a target stick, target a finger, put your paws up (on my leg). I'm also working on teaching Hurley to stay, and go to a still target. So far Hurley is the easiest one to teach. He is more treat driven. He likes to work. Pandora isn't too motivated to learn anything new.

Loki may be the fussiest cat who's ever lived (I genuinely think she would starve to death if she lived with anybody who pampered her less than us. She simply does not acknowledge hard food as edible, and dislikes most canned food), but I've found treats that she likes, so she's pretty food motivated. She just has a short attention span (don't all cats?), and I don't have a lot of time to work with her, so it's rather slow going.
