I'm new to this forum, mostly because I couldn't really find an answer to this question anywhere else on the internet.
I know cats sometimes have weird and eccentric behavior and I just wasn't sure if this was my kitty being her crazy self or if she was trying to tell me something else is wrong:
I have a decorative cow skull that my father gave to me as a present from Mexico. Not really my first choice for decor, but it's here. I've recently caught my 8-month-old kitten licking it on several occasions. She'll do it for at least a few minutes. I wasn't sure if this had something to do with dietary issues, like if she needs something else in her diet and that's why she's lapping at bones.
I would kind of like to eliminate this behavior for her sake, as I am supposed to gesso and paint the darn thing for my father and I don't want her thinking its some kind of chew toy one night and get gesso in her mouth (for those of you who don't know what gesso its, it's the stuff you spread on canvases before you paint them to give you a good base to paint on and tightens the fabric over the boards. It also contains ammonia but most of the painting will take place outdoors, although it will be brought back into the house after it's dry).
So in short, 1. Why might she be doing this and if there's a dietary concern, what can I do to help her, and 2. How can I get her to restrain herself around cow skulls and other skeletal parts?
Thank you very much for your help.
