I posted this on the Writing Forum, and after a reply there I realized that many people may be too young to get the reference in the title.

I wrote this in college, back when the comic strip "BC" was big. In that comic strip, in the Spring, flowers would suddenly spring up from the ground, fully formed, with a "SROING" sound effect.

I didn't make the BC connection (though I do rememeber the comic), but I immediately thought that the SPROING was flowers popping up.
