How are you all doing this week?

I wanted to share two stories.

We bought a cat leash/harness and practiced with it inside the house for a week. Today, I took Simba out to the hallway of the apartment building. It's the first time he has been in the hallway since we first brought him home wrapped up in my jacket.

He walked to each doormat sniffing silently and making his rounds. I was surprised that he was walking around on his own and exploring so I let him lead the way. (At home, he will sometimes just lie on his back and show me his belly...)

When we climbed up the stairs to the third floor there was a doormat that said "Wipe your paws" and he promptly mewed right in front of it. It made me crack up so hard. I wonder if they have cats?
I asked him if that was where his girlfriend lived.
We'd like to take him out for walks once Spring comes.

Also earlier today, my Mom and I were sitting on the couch and watching Simba groom himself when she mentioned that she took extra care when she brushed the back of his neck because he can't reach it. I said. "Yeah, that's usually where the other cats will help with those hard to reach spots."

Mom said, "Oh really? Maybe we should get another cat then."
Her remark made me smile because my mom was initially the one that was super-adamant against getting a cat. Now Simba has her wrapped around his paws. They've bonded so wonderfully (it's been almost 2 months since we adopted him.)

We are going to the vet next week for a check-up (whose office is connected to the shelter where we adopted him.) Mom suggested that we go look at the cats with a leashed Simba. If anything, we will go cuddle some lovely cats. Or possibly come home with another Yim!

Please wish us a healthy check-up and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Cheers,
April

PS: Feel free to share any stories you have! It's the everyday things that make a life worth telling.

That's adorable, sounds like he wants a friend! I've always wanted to walk a cat, maybe someday.... Anyway, good luck with your vet visit, and with getting another kitty

I've tried the harness and leash with my kitties. Doesn't work so well. Shareena and Miss Patchwillow think going for a walk means I do the walking and they ride on my shoulders. Of course, the instant I turn around to head home, they're off and running so fast I can't keep up with them.

I guess you can pick up a leash/harness and try it?
Thank you!

Have fun walking Simba! Sounds like he enjoys it, too! Wouldn't it be nice if Simba could have a baby brother or sister? I hope your mom agrees!

Three of our six have been leash-trained. Every time I get the leash out in the summer, Ms. Pepe and BooBoo argue over who's going for walkies first. It's hysterical to listen to them yelling at each other. We usually take BooBoo out first, then Pepe. And when Banshee was alive, she just loved going for walkies. We haven't tried it with Mollipop yet, not on a leash.

Whisper wants nothing to do with outside whatsoever. She was an outdoor kitty before we brought her into the house and she want nothing to do with being outside ever again. We can open a door right in front of her and she turns around walks away, meowing the whole time: "Nope, I don't need to go there, thank you very much....not gonna happen!" Bootser, however, would go outside in a heartbeat if she had the chance.

Banshee would always go outside in my arms, too. Every night after I was finished cleaning the kitchen after dinner, I'd go to the front door. "Banshee, c'mon!" and she'd be right there. I'd pick her up and we'd walk outside. I'd let her sniff the leaves on the trees and sniff the flowers in the garden. And then we'd go out in the back yard and she'd sit on my lap on the swing and we'd watch the birds and the bugs. And she'd just sit there and purr and purr. If it was raining, I'd take the umbrella and she was content to be in my arms on the front stoop for a few minutes. If it was snowing, I'd wrap her in a blanket and we'd walk around the front yard for a few minutes. Not long, not in the cold weather. But just for a few minutes.

One afternoon, Banshee and I went over to the hammock. I flopped down and she lay on my chest. I fell asleep for a few minutes. And, thank goodness, so did she! I awakened and she was still there. I was very lucky that she didn't try to get away. But she was content, just to be there. That ended the hammock though....we didn't do that again.

I'm doing the same thing with Mollipop. She meets me at the front door and I pick her up. And off we go for a walk. On all days but the coldest and windiest. She seems happy to go outside for a little while. I'll be glad when Daylight Savings Time starts again, so Molli and I have a little more time for walks outside.

Fingers crossed that you will get another Yim sometime soon!

Wessie doesn't like walking on a leash, but then again I always made it myself out of a robe strap.
I used him on a leash a little when I was introducing him to the outdoors. Whenever I put it on him he just lays down and refuses to move... hmmm.
Hope you have a wonderful day!

I have tried to put a harness on Pipsqueak, but it is hysterical, he won't move and rolls on his side. He got up and tried to walk, but fell over

How exciting for the possibility of a new friend for Simba!!! I think it would be a great idea - and I am telling you once you go into the shelter, that will be it, one of those cats will steal your

That's so wonderful! I think it's so cute they would argue over who gets out to go first. I hope Simba takes to the outdoors on a leash as well.
I love the hammock story, although I understand why you wouldn't do that again.

Simba Yim is FELV/FIV negative!

Ugh getting him to the car was terrible. We tried to put him in the carrier and he scratched my mom up. (He hates being confined in a box because he was abandoned in a box.)

Instead I wrapped him up in a towel and took him in my arms.
I sat in the car next to him and he calmed down once we stopped trying to put him in the box.

Once we got to the vet's office there were only dogs!
But Simba Yim was surprisingly the cool cucumber and just observed the doggy antics, sitting on my lap the entire time.

We didn't get a chance to look at the shelter kitties but we stopped by Petco and got him some Greenies treats. He loved them!
