My first stone

No, it's not a thread about getting high, although that may not be a bad idea.

I've been having some soreness in the lower left of my abdomen since Monday so I decided to go to the hospital to get looked at. It turns out I have a kidney stone (at least that I know of). The doctor gave me Vicoden for the pain and referred me to a urologist. Hopefully, I can get in tomorrow.

My first stone...hope it's a boy!

Haha, congrats! LOL. Sorry, that stinks. Hope it all "passes"

Wow - hang in there... they are quite painful to pass...

OMG it better be the last too!! That really sucks, I would be so scared.

When you said stone I thought you were talking about weight loss, a "stone" measurement.
Hang in there and good vibes to you!

I hope it ends well! I read that they are quite pretty if cut in half to see the interior.
Not that you want to do that....

That's what I thought....or a weight gain! (Sorry)

I hope your stone passes without a lot of pain.

Ouch! My Mom has had problems with kidney stones, and from watching her, I know they're not pleasant. Good luck!

HA HA about the stoner comment. Hope you are doing alright, stones can be so painful, hope it passes easily for you

Oh lucky you! Sorry. I've passed 4 of them (about once a year I pass a stone)....all of them about 3mm.
The E.R. sent me home with a 'top hat' device to put into the toilet so I could catch them to send them for analysis. Three millimeter stones are freakin' SMALL!!! How can something that tiny cause that much pain???!!!???

The cats could tell that I wasn't feeling well. None of them left my side as I writhed in pain on the cool bathroom floor.

Here's my small synopsis of drugs for kidney stone pain.
Vicodin - makes you feel buzzy...does nothing for the pain.
Demerol IV - lessens the pain minimally for a short time.
Morphine IV - makes you forget completely about the kidney stone pain because your diaphragm goes into spasm from puking so much.

My only advice is:
When they tell you to increase your fluid intake...they're not kidding!
Cats make the best nurses!

Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks everyone!

I just returned from the urologist and it turns out I do NOT have a kidney stone. He was a little puzzled as to why the ER doc said I did since the IVP didn't show any stones. I gave a good yelp when he pressed on my left side. I'm very sore and I am having a hard time moving around and sleeping. The urologist believes it may be diverticulitis given my history of colitis. I have a call into my GI doctor.

Haha, that made me laugh out loud! I'm fine on Morphine until I stand up and then up comes everything!

I must be getting old when I don't think of the drug reference when I saw "stone", and immediately thought of kidney stones instead...

I hope you'll be feeling better very soon. Those things are uber-painful!

Oh, and at least it's one kid you won't have to put through college!

Am I the only one who thought of the episode on Friends where Joey is passing a stone while Phoebe gives birth?

Glad it wasn't a stone. Hope you get to feeling better ASAP!

I don't remember what they gave me at the ER when I had my stone. It took a while and I think they upped the amount at some point, but when it kicked in I wanted to kiss that nurse. Never had pain as bad as that stupid stone.

The only good thing about a kidney stone is that it DOES pass...usually.

Having a kidney stone, however, is a lot like being seasick. First, you're so sick you're afraid you're going to die. Then, you're so sick, you don't care if you die. And then, you're so sick, you're afraid you might not die.

I've passed at least two. The first one was unbelievable!

I have to remember this....exactly the way it feels!

Sometimes they don't pass. Mine didn't. Had to eventually have it removed after 3 months (or longer I think). I think it might have been worse to actually have it pass.

Glad to hear that it's not a stone... but now they need to find out definitively what it is and get you back up and running again.

I'm still a little sore depending on how I move around, but I'm not in any pain like I was on Friday. The GI doctor wasn't convinced it was diverticulitis because he said I would of had a fever. He said it could be my colitis flaring up on my left side. I'm going to call him again tomorrow.

I'm slightly concerned about having trace amounts of blood in my urine even though it can't be seen by the naked eye. I believe my blood work came back without showing any problems other than my anemia.

Bryan, my doctor calls me a "stone thrower". Not good in the bible or in life. I get multiple stones a year. Honestly you can get used to constant immense amounts of pain.
