Hi,

Since September 2010, Cindy has been suffering from eye ulcers practically every month. They are never in the same eye - September it was her right eye, October it was her left eye, November, back to the right eye etc....

They are being treated with Fucithalmic eye drops and they always heal up but I'm just wondering whether anyone else has a cat that is suffering from eye ulcers the way my poor Cindy is.

Thanks

The cat I'm most attached to at the shelter where I volunteer, Constantine, has ulcers in both eyes. He's been in the isolation room for about 6 weeks because of this. He's getting medicine for it 3 times a day, but I don't know what it is. Thankfully, there is a full-time vet on staff there, as well as several vet techs.

Maybe, since this has gone on so long, you should get a second opinion? Where I live there are all kinds of vet specialists within about an hour drive. If this were happening to one of my cats, I'd probably go for a specialist.

As it is, I'm so worried about Constantine. Now they won't even let me see him, though they are saying it's not because of his condition, but a virus that they are trying to contain that has been spreading through the shelter for weeks. It's an eye thing, too. We're washing our hands between touching each cat, not touching at all the cats who already show that they have the virus, and taking other precautions.

Anyway, I suggest getting another opinion from another vet, if not an eye specialist vet.

Hope your cat is better very soon.

Robin

Thanks Robin. The next time this happens, she will be going to an eye specialist. Our vet performed a battery of tests but they've all come back negative so they say that something in my home has changed and is causing the ulcers

Just to let you know how it turned out with Constantine. They figured out that he had hairs growing on the inside of his eyelids and causing the ulcers.

He had a procedure done by a feline ophthalmologist a couple of weeks ago, using lasers, that took care of the hairs. I have heard that he is doing well and will soon be available for adoption again.

Hope your kitty is doing well.
