I'm So scared..

I hope you get to keep kitty too! If kitty is thin and running in the street it probably IS a stray like you said. And you said there are a lot of strays in the area.

I hope that everything works out and kitty can stay with you. I was in a similar position when I took in my cat, Ivo. She was a stray living around the dumpsters in the back of our building. When I took her in, I called the city's animal control to report finding her. No one had put in a report about a cat of her description being missing. But, they said I had to wait 7 days, and if someone in that time reported her missing, I'd have to turn her over. I was on edge for those 7 days, but she's been with me for almost 2 years now.
