Cat obsessed with food

I have a male cat that's about 12-13 years old I've had since he was a kitten. He's friendly, laid back, gentle, mild tempered but he's obsessed with food. This cat will literally jump on the table and start eating food right off your plate. He will jump on the stove and eat food out of the pans. He'll try chewing through any wrapped food like a loaf of bread. He'll go into the garbage and eat food. I've caught him several times literally standing inside the sink trying to eat old food off the dishes. He'll sit and paw at your fork as your putting food in your mouth. He doesn't just beg like a dog, he literally eats your food as you eat. We feed him. When we give him food, he eats it so fast and then throws up. I've decided to give him only a little bit at the time. He's skinny but he eats like a pig. When there isn't food around, he's a great cat. Not sure what to do. He's been like this since he was a kitten but it seems it's getting worse as he gets older. We don't give him any of our food. We tried spraying him with a water bottle when he tries to eat someone's food and he runs away, but he just comes back.

Try offering him a few small meals throughout the day and see if that curbs/satisfies his hunger. Also, I am wondering if he has a hairball??? Eating and throwing up are a common sign of this and you said he is skinny, poor baby. I would think a trip to the vet for a check-up would be in order for your cat.

I just started giving my cats every other day, 1 tsp. of 100% pure petroleum jelly (vaseline). You can give this to your cat a hour or so by mouth before you feed him, this might help keep the food down. Really vomiting after eating chronically is a red flag to me that something needs to be addressed. Your cat is hungry and that is why he wants to eat everything in sight. It is possible that he is just a little piggy, my Perkins is like this, but he doesn't throw up his food. That would concern me

A skinny cat eating tons sounds like possible hyperthyroidism to me. You should take him to the vet to rule out any medical problems.
