excessive whining

in the last week jericho has started whining alot. at first i thought he was just hungry but he will do it when he has water and food.
is he just getting more vocal or what?
he will sit outside any room and cryyyy and cryyyy until we open the door or come out and then he is all over us. earlier today he was laying on my chest and i went to put him down and he started whining about it.
is this a sign that hes sick or hurt? its starting to worry me because he is a very independent cat but now he is being very clingy. we have both been sick this past week though, so maybe he just wants to comfort us? idk..its just weird!

He's probably just getting more vocal. Tails is just over 6 months old and he has become multiple times more vocal within the last two weeks. I was petting him today, and he started chirping and meowing mid-pet.

I agree. At first Buttercup wouldn't say a peep, even when clearly very excited anticipating her meal, and her purring was pretty much inaudible. Now she meows loudly (and often pathetically) whenever she wants something and purrs very loud and also wants attention far more often.

So to me its just being more comfortable in their environment and you and more confident. Good things, although obviously can be annoying.

Definitely would make an effort to ignore behavior you don't like though like the crying at the door, and not reward it with attention/response.

Well, I don't want to get you worried, but our Spooky gets more vocal when she's in pain (she has dental problems). Whenever she starts talking noticably more, we get her to the vet, and almost always it turns out she needs a dental.

Has he seen a vet recently? If he's been in sometime within the past six months, did they say anything about how his teeth looked? Of course, it could just be he's getting more vocal, or if he's like Spooky, it isn't necessarily his teeth.

But if this were us, I'd get him to the vet. At the very least you paid to make sure he's OK.

He's a kitten, I doubt there are dental problems as he probably just grew adult teeth (birth year on his cat page is 2010).

Didn't look up his birth year. But Spooky did lose two teeth by age two. Her problem is genetics. However I used Spooky by way of illustration. It could possibly be a different issue. It could also be he's just getting more talkative and needy. You have two options: go to the vet and find out. Or wait and see. I simply advocate for the more proactive approach.

Since it is such a drastic change in his behavior as far as the mewing and being clingy, I would keep a close eye on him and maybe a trip to the vet wouldn't be a bad idea. It could be since you were both sick, he is just concerned. It might be nothing, but Jericho might be trying to tell you something

well he was at the vet in january and they said he was just fine and he has seemed to cool it with the being so clingy, i think it may have to do with us being so sick and locking him out at night, because we let him into every room we are in and last night he threw a whiney fit because daddy wouldnt let him in the bathroom with him

as we speak he is sqeeking his fur butt off because i found his favorite toy. maybe he was just worked up because he couldnt get to it before...oh and here come the attack paws at my hands typing hahahahah
i will definately be keeping an eye on him though to make sure he doesnt start acting any weirder than usual.

Rasta my little black cat becomes more and more vocal all the time. My other one rarely let out a peep unless I pick him up (which he cries because he doesn't like it) or is really hungry. Cats are only vocal to communicate with us in the wild they are rarely so.
