If I go out in a strong wind, my nails break....I wake up in the morning and find I have a broken or split nail.

It is no use........my nails are pitiful!

If you love doing your nails all fancy...you've GOT to try water marbling. When done correctly the results are pretty cool. The best part is, you don't even need long nails to do it. It works on short ones too.
It is time consuming, uses a lot of nail polish (getting coordinated enough to do 2 or 3 nails at once really cuts down on wasted polish though) and doesn't work with ALL polishes. Sort of have to experiment to see if it works. Sally Hansen works well (NOT fast drying).

Anywho, here is a picture of one of my first few attempts. (Ignore the bumps, I was an amateur.
)

And here is a link to a channel with a ton of tutorials and color suggestions.

Yeah, you put the nail polish in the water, swirl it around, dip your finger in, nail facing the water, collect the extra polish then pull your finger out. Helps to have tape around your finger though, otherwise you gotta clean it off your skin with polish remover.

Very cool! My nails are usually painted But I dont always do designs. I will for holidays or do tips every now and then. Right now they are a insanely hot pink color. (Think 80s day glow pink) and my toes are a really sparkly red. I usually go for pedicures fairly often in the summer and get nail art done on my big toe. My favorite design I have had was orange polish with white and silver flowery designs. Looked awesome and was perfect for the Vols!
All I have to say about the water marbling is DUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDEEEEE! So gonna try that!!

I keep my nails fairly long and I do them myself. Not into all the designs much; I'll keep them one color, although I do have a few bottles of glitter polishes and crackle polishes. But I simply don't have the time to do all the different colors. I have done French tips on occasion, but not often.

I had a professional manicure one time (for DS's wedding). She was pretty bad. She left nail polish along the cuticles and on the nail bed. And how tacky is that? I came home and had to clean the cuticles myself. Ick. Ever since then, I've done my own nails. I do my nails at night and let them dry. Then the next morning, I'll remove any excess polish from cuticles and nail beds.

A few weeks ago, DH and I were in a restaurant. The server had gorgeous nails and I just loved the color. I had to ask her what the color was and she was more than willing to tell me. And not too long after that, we were being checked out in the grocery store....I had that same color on my nails and the clerk asked me about the color!

Check out the tutorials in the link for sure. She usually lists what brands/colors she is using.

Just make sure the water is room temperature. It will not work if its too cold or too warm.

Its pretty addictive. I was redoing mine every couple of days and buying every color of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear line.

The most artsy my nails have ever been was a French Manicure!

I've only had a couple of manicures and typically do my own nails. Gel nails and funky designs are out because of the work I do. Infection control considers them to be a hazard to patient care. Technically we aren't supposed to be even wearing nail polish.

The other day at our pedicure my friend went for red toe nails with some kind of sparkle dust or something on the top. They looked rather pretty.

You gals have some serious nail art going on. I am a bit too old for that.

I usually paint my with a pale color and do a top coat. I have to keep my nails trimmed very short or I can't play the guitar.
I don't go to the salons as I am too scared of getting a nail fungus.

I used to have the fake nails but found out I am allergic to the glue. My nails are starting to grow out better and I have a cheap polish on them. Wet and Wild Shine in a burgandy color.

That's better than my first attempt. If you pull the outside edges in towards the middle, you can get cool flower like effects, like this:

If you check out good ol' google images, you can see some really great colors to mix. There are so many I want to try. I love, love, love doing it. As messy it is, looks so pretty. Wait till you master it and they come out PERFECT and with a clear coat to give it some shine, its awesome.

thank you! Those are pretty neat! I am thinking I'm going to try a flowery design next time and use some whites and pinks! I need someone elses nails to try out too! LOL!
I tried it again last night using a light turquoisey color, white, and a bronze color. I like them, but they dont seem as springy!

Oooh! I love how the baby fingernail came out! I always have a favorite nail by the end of it lol.
Some more pale colors would be perfect. Light pinks, blues, purples and of course white.

I really like doing black with one alternate color as well. For halloween I had an awesome black and purple dress, so I did black and purple marbling, it turned out awesome. Got a lot of compliments.

Here is my experiment with the black crackle polish by China Glaze

My favorite combos are when it's over a nude polish so it looks like leopard print, and when it's over dark blue polish.
