hardwood floor sealer - cat got sick

I was having hardwood installed and when the floor sealer was being applied the cat and I were watching and the cat got sick, I am guessing from its smell. The cat coughed or had shortness of breath for about 5-7 minutes.

Is he going to be ok or should I take him to the vet?

I would take the kitty to the vet. Who knows what kind of fumes he ingested. Get the ingredients of the sealer and take with you.

I would keep him in another area until the floor is odor free. And call the makers of the sealer to find out if noxious to animals.

I always err on the side of safety. You might want to avoid the area too.

He seems ok now though. Eating, drinking, running around lol

Take the cat to the vet. Before you go open as many windows as possible to help the house air out. Then for the rest of today you, the cat, and anyone else in the home should stay with family/friends or in a hotel. Depending on the sealer it should be ok 24 to 36 hours after it was applied. If oil base (few are anymore) it may take longer.

I hope your cat will be okay. That is why when we built our house, we installed prefinished hardwood floors.

That stuff is very dangerous to inhale. When we had our hardwood floors done some years ago they refused to do them because I was pregnant so they waited until I was in the hospital before they would come in to do it.
