Sorry I did not do a search if there was a recent thread on this but I wanted some quick feedback.

We had two dentals done recently. Now we have two sniffle cases in our hands. I wonder if this is something that commonly happens when cats are under anesthesia? (Did not happen with neuter ops).

One of the sniffles is very snotty and came on rather late after the dental, one is very painful dry/watery sniffle and came on right after dental surgery. I suspect the second one is stress-related as we have been dealing with complications from the surgery (whole other story).

I know these things are easily picked up from vets but how common is it to get something from the anesthesia per se? I am going to have to go back to vet with Ossi who has other problems, so I will ask but I am also curious to know what are others experiences?

I don't think anesthesia had much to do with it. Sounds more like simple bad luck.

Two of my feline girls came down ill for no good reason. Baby cat first, then Moo. They're BFF's so I wasn't surprised that they came down with kitty-colds so close to eachother. The same way you can track in fleas, you can track in baceria/virii and fungi. All of my animals are 110% indoor with the exception of my mini-pin for walks, and they all (3 cats and mini-pin) receive routine care including yearly boosters and dental cleanings, anti-flea/parasite/feline&canine heartworm medication (revolution).

Things happen. Even with the very best care and intentions! All I can really advise is to follow your vets instructions and do what you can to keep kitties comfortable. I kept them in the master bedroom with a humidifier running. No additives like Vicks, just water. It really seemed to help the girls out with breathing and keeping the discharge thin enough for mommy to clean up.

I hope someone else can offer more advice! This is just my own experience, ymmv, as it were.

The vet's opinion was that it's rather unusual from anesthesia itself too. However, the consensus was that in this case the colds are related to the dentals/vet visits pretty much 100%. Either something was caught in the office or illness is stress related. I actually think we actually might have a case of each!

Boys went to dentals on different days. One has a snotty, goopy-eye and really violent sneezing wet cold. One has head-twitching, sore throat, feverish-type, really down in the dumps type of dry cold. One was not too stressed of the visit and recovered quickly initially, then became ill, and one was really stressed and had multiple issues.

To complicate, only one responded to Baytril liquid that the vet immediately wanted them on (usually for regular cold they don't want any antibiotics to start with at our vets). The other one vomited (projectile with blood) the meds all over, so now he is on 10-day course of antibiotics that need to be injected. After couple of days we are still pretty sick but at least eating some and sicker baby is able to pee and poop now. I def think it's a bit more than stress-sniffles!
