Hello everyone!
My name is Nancy and I'm 31 years old. My husband and I are parents to 5 lovely kitties. I've always loved cats but I come from a "dog family". I was only allowed to get a cat when I turned 14 years old. I was suffering from major depression and my doctor told my mother that getting a cat would greatly reduce my depression. That is when we picked my Willow out from a litter of stray kittens that a woman was caring for. She was creamy white with brown points and beautiful blue eyes. She was the best cat a girl could ask for. My brother called me to come to my parents' house when she was 12 years old. He was very upset and thought that she was starting to slip away. I got there, held her close to me and she died in my arms. She is greatly missed.
My husband and I moved in together in 2004. We were living together for 2 weeks when we got our first cat, Simon. He was a scrawny, black and grey tiger. He was very shy and very skittish. One day he started sucking on my hair and he's been a "momma's boy" ever since. Two weeks after we got Simon, we picked out our Maya. She's a long-haired Tortoiseshell. We believe that she may be part Maine Coon. She's very large for a female and very large for a Tortoiseshell. She's twice the size of my other females and has a very unique, prissy personality! A year later, we found our Zoey.
She was a short-haired tortoiseshell and remained very small. She was always very kitten like. She ended up being my husband's cat. She slept by him at night and was always by his side. In February of 2010, she was diagnosed with kidney failure. She was taken from us, too soon, in August 2010. She was only 5 years old.
Two years after we had gotten Zoey, my husband and I moved into a house. I wanted to get a dog but my husband really isn't a dog person. So, we got another kitten! That's when Maggie entered our lives. She's a long-hair with beautiful with white, black and greyish brown markings. She has a THICK, layered coat that's practically waterproof! When we have to bathe her, it takes forever just to wet her down. For that reason alone, we think she may be part Norwegian Forest Cat. We call her "Evil" because she is ALWAYS biting for no reason at all! She draws blood on my mother in law all the time.
I suffer from bipolar disorder. A couple weeks before our Zoey passed away, I became very manic. Even though we had 4 cats, I wanted another one. It was either another cat or a dog. My husband said no to the dog but caved for the cat. That's when we brought Loki home. He's a black domestic shorthair. He definitely is a trickster, just like his name suggests!! I was so grief stricken (still manic too) after Zoey passed on that I wanted yet ANOTHER kitten. My husband also caved to this "need" of mine and we got our Seamus. He looks exactly like our Simon except he has white socks and a white "exclamation point" on his nose. He is now the absolute FATTEST cat! He's not even a year old yet and he's a total fatty! We're trying to cut down on their food so that he loses some weight.
I love my fur children very, very much and would do just about anything for them. I could go on and on about them forever, but I think I've already written enough. Thanks for reading and I look forward to talking to all of you soon!

Welcome Nancy!!! It sounds like you have a wonderful fur-mily!!!

I totally agree that our babies lift us out of those deep depressions!! I think it was a great suggestion from your doctor to get a cat. I can't wait to see pics of your furbabies!! We all feel the same way about kitties here so you'll be right at home!!
