I am new to this site and just curious, as I just put my 8 year old to rest after finding out he had lymphoma, do you believe that are furry friends come to visit after they pass. are they watching over us and do they understand they even though we had to let them go, that we loved them so much and only wanted what was best for them. this is the first pet i have ever lost, and would love some feedback. thanks.

We had my sweet cat Jack put to sleep about 6 weeks ago. He had fibrosarcoma. The night after he died I felt his presence against my back. That's where he slept for 10+ years and I was comforted that I was still able to "feel" him.

He knew that he was loved and your kitty knew that too. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Absolutely I believe they are still with us. For three nights in a row, when my Jazz cat passed many years ago, I woke at the exact same time each night and he was sitting (floating) right off to the side of my bed watching me. I truly believe this was real and not a dream. Either way, I have felt the presence of my beloved cats, but only for a short time after they pass on till they go to the bridge.

I'm so sorry that your cat got sick and died.

I did have a dream after Lynxx died. In the dream I was standing here in the house holding Midnight. Only Midnight's purr was different, and his fur felt different. And he was way to heavy. I pulled Midnight off my shoulder to look at him and it wasn't Midnight. It was Lynxx. He was alive, he was ok, he was no longer sick. He wasn't skin and bones anymore, he was his healthy big 17lbs. His fur was all back, shiny, soft the way it used to be before he got sick. We were just standing there hugging him. I think maybe he was showing me he was ok now. I have vivid dreams a lot of the time. But I've never had such a vivid dream before. I know it was real. I know I got to see him 1 more time. I haven't dreamed of him since then. I'd give anything to see him again, even if it is just in a dream.

A friend from work years ago had a cat that died. This was her favorite cat. She said every once in awhile she'll see that cat out of the corner of her eye, or in the reflection of a mirror next to her. But every time she turns the cat isn't there. I do believe her, because she isn't into ghosts and supernatural things really freak her out. But it makes her happy to still see her cat every now and then.

I know of other people online that have seen their cats again, after their cats died. I don't know anyone else in real life who have dreams of their cats or see their cats still. But I never really asked any of them.

I lost my chinchilla, Chloe, on September 23, 2009. She was very dear to me. We had a bond that I can't even describe, even though she was a rodent. I know she's still around. One night I woke up and I felt her sitting on my leg, I know it was her and I know she was there because Pandora woke up and was looking right at the place where I could feel Chloe sitting.

Our family dog had cancer and we had to put her to sleep this past November, my MIL has always been a little psychic and she says she feels LuLu is around all the time.

I very much believe that our pets come back to visit us, especially after reading Animals in Spirit by Penelope Smith. That book really helped me after Chloe died. It took me a very long time to come to terms with her death because I felt so guilty. I blamed myself for a long time and wished that I could of done more for her.

Well, I'm not one of those who can believe in "the rainbow bridge" as much as I'd like to. I have very agnostic feelings about "the afterlife" in general. I am a spiritual person, though no longer religious, and I do believe we are spiritual beings temporarily in a physical body. But after death, I'm not sure what transpires.

But, I have had experiences with the spirits of my departed cats. At times I think I see their ghosts, brief moments of seeing them, at least for a while after they die. I don't think they want to leave, and for a while their spirits or souls hover here, until they gradually move on. Somehow, I don't think they ever leave entirely.

And our pets know they were loved and cared for, and they are grateful. I'm sure of that.

Sorry you lost your cat. It is never easy.

After reading your post, I actually purchased a copy of the Smith book for a friend whose beloved 19y/o cat passed away almost 2 months. I don't really believe in spirits or the afterlife, but she does and I hope, like your own experience, she will come to term with her cat's death. Thank you for mentioning the book.

When Stan, our adopted kitty that we only had for two months, passed we could hear his tags on his collar pretty often - especially at night. We still hear them occasionally and I know it isn't Leiki (she doesn't wear a collar) or the dogs (their tags sound different). When we're walking somewhere in our neighbourhood - to the corner store for example - I quite often catch a glimpse of Stan out of the corner of my eye. When I turn to look there isn't a cat there at all.

The same thing happened to my parents when their cat Lois died, they could hear her tags and hear her meowing at night. They would also feel her jump up on the bed when they went to sleep.

With my old dog, we still sometimes hear his tags jingle even now - it's been about 4 years since he died. It's funny because we hear him all the time at our apartment and he was never here, I moved here almost 3 years ago. My mom still hears him at their home. When we've been at the dog park I swear I've seen him, even though he was never at that particular park. I catch a glimpse of him running past where Sadie is and she'll run for a few minutes and then stop and just look. She's not one to play with other dogs much and at the dog park she mostly just wanders around and sniffs, however she would always play with Tipper and Fynn (our other dachshund).

After my old cat Frisco died, I didn't see or hear her at all. Neither did my parents. She was my first pet so it hit me hard, but she also passed about 6 months after Tipper so it's possible that because we were still hearing Tipper so often and they didn't particularly get along, that she was there but just watching.
